How to position your portfolio for Fed rate cuts

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is on his second day of testimonies before the Senate, speaking on how the Fed is still taking in economic data in order to make an informed decision around potential interest rate cuts. With many different factors in play, how could a potential rate cut play out in the markets (^DJI, ^IXIC, ^GSPC), and how should investors position themselves to take advantage of one?
Zacks Investment Management client portfolio manager Brian Mulberry joins Wealth! to give insight into where investors should consider positioning their portfolios during the first rate cut in current market conditions.
Mulberry explains where his focus remains:
"The Magnificent Seven account for the lion's share of that 17% growth in the [S&P 500] index. So if that earnings is going to balance out, we feel like it's going to come from higher quality names. It's not going to be a broadening effect across all names because we are still in a very high interest rate environment. And I'm just making the case now that growth is slowing, jobs are weakening. This isn't necessarily the case where you're going to see earnings growth from every corner of this market. So you really have to be concentrated on what we think are the highest quality metrics..."

I got my first job at 22, strived and grew my portfolio to 450k by 33. Recently, lost over 20% and want to mitigate risks. Also, thinking of paying off my mortgage but I want my portfolio to grow to a 7-figure ball park so I can retire in 12 years. What should I do?

Adding JEPI and JEPQ is smart for retirement. As for staying committed to low-risk investments, it's all about balancing your risk tolerance with your long-term goals.

I believe a healthy portfolio has 3 things, at the bare minimum: Exposure to ETFs for increased diversification, Exposure to assets that generate cash flow like dividend stocks, Exposure to market-leading tech.

Agreed! Generally I think partnering with the right planner is invaluable, my portfolio is well-matched for every season of the market, and recently hit 40% rise from late last year. I and my CFP are working on a 7-figure ballpark goal, though this could take another year.

Transfer of wealth usually occur during market crash, so the more stocks drop, the more I buy, in the meanwhile I'm just focused on making better investments and earning more as recession fear increases, apparently there are strategies to 3x gains in this present market cos I read of someone that pulled a profit of $350k within 6months, and it would really help if you could make a video covering these strategies.

that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+

Does this guy really not understand the Fed doesn't care about headline inflation?
@robertbrown1021
@robertbrown1021 23 күн бұрын
What do they care about? What's the end game? Seems simple allow this pain to happen just leave rates alone or cut rates and buy us 2 years and inflation higher than ever with a bigger portion of people can't afford to make a living and so on..... Inflation needs to come down and I recommend sitting and allow us to get to 2% over 5 years..
@ryann8348
@ryann8348 23 күн бұрын
@@robertbrown1021 They care about core (excluding food/energy) PCE inflation. While food/energy are important to our cost of living, they are horrible measures of underlying inflation. They're incredibly volatile, largely priced by the global market rather than domestic, and food is very much subject to non-economic factors (weather, etc), so they are ignored by the Fed. If the Fed does nothing, we'll probably have a recession and get that 2% inflation target in the next year, MAYBE two. The Fed rate is now more than double the rate of inflation (YoY Core PCE); it's just too high to be sustainable. It needs to be slowly and gradually lowered, starting soon, assuming we aren't in a downward spiral already (which the labor market is showing some signs of)
@robertbrown1021

@@ryann8348 Appreciate the explanation, but lowering in my opinion will cause people to try to purchase homes which will push prices back up, I think they should just let this year stay the same we are going to fill pain maybe allow jobs up to 4.5%

Interesting , the stock market is currently experiencing a decline while bond yields are on the rise. However, there seems to be skepticism amongst investors regarding the Federal Reserve's plan to continue increasing interest rates until inflation is stabilized. As for myself, I find myself at a crossroads, uncertain whether to liquidate my $250,000 stock portfolio> I'm seeking advice on the best strategy to capitalize on this current bear market.

consider moving your money from the housing market to financial markets or gold due to high mortgage rates and tough guidelines. Home prices may need to drop significantly before things stabilize. Seeking advice from a financial advisor who understands the market could be helpful in making the right decisions.
