frank rumble our goats are dairy goats so we do not slaughter and eat them. This little guy will be part of our breeding program so the girls can produce milk.

Yes he's a year old and he is healthy happy and has had kids of his own.

Where do they buy the diapers from? Didn’t know they sold diapers!! (I have a 4day old goat that I rescued)

At this point Rudy is full grown, and has had many kids of his own, but to this day, he is still my best buddy.

Yes. And even though he is a couple of months old now, and has moved back into the barn, he is still the most loving and sweet goat that we have ever raised.

@@SurvivalistGardener Even 4! Lol my rescue nanny had 2, a couple weeks early from when I was told her due date. I was holy unprepared, but Betty was tired of being pregnant, and she had the most disrespectfully adorable kids, I've ever seen. Like, who do they think they are being that heckin cute!? In 35 years of ranching, I've never seen cuter and they are also the smallest kids I've ever seen. The little girl was BARELY bigger than my hand and neither one, weighed more than 2lbs. If that! 2 are a handful, 3, 4, 5!? The little billy almost died the night he was born, there was a lot of crying, praying and pacing that night. My vet was fantastic about stress though. Petey, was windswept and his fetlock was so weak it was buckling under him, any time he tried to stand up or walk. I found them literally right after the little girl was born out in the pasture, mom was still cleaning her off and chewing the umbilical cord. Immediately I knew something was wrong with the little billy, he wasn't moving normally, and he was very weak for some reason. I was determined not to lose Petey though. In the last few months I saw a man kill himself right in front of me, and I had to put a dog down that was hit by a car, I still haven't found his owners. I have watched to much death happen right in my face, I wasn't going to lose Petey. I sat and watched them, and mom wouldn't let them nurse. She would kick them away, and Petey tried to nurse 1 time, but he didn't trying again. He was just to weak, and as much as I didn't want to move them, they were out in the pasture cause again, they were weeks early and it was fixing to storm something awful. I live out here completely alone so, it was all pretty overwhelming. I don't know what I would have done with more than 2! The Lord heard my prayers though, and Petey made it through the night and is thriving. Him and I have a incredible bond after that night. He wants to be with me more than he does his mom, which worried me because she finally got it together and started feeding them, and I didn't want him to be rejected because our bond. I have no problem bottle feeding if I need to but I obviously want him to be with his mom, for many reasons lol. So far, he is being taken care of by her. Even when I'm with him. Question, when 3 are born, can they survive and keep healthy with just mom? Taking turns nursing or something? Or do any other kids after the 2, need to be taken and bottle fed? I know that obviously if 5 are born, 1 or 2 need to be bottle fed, but what about 3 or 4? How common is having 3 or more kids? I've never seen a goat have more than 2, and I was planning to start breeding again but now, I'm hesitant lol. My pets are the most valuable and cherished things I have, their health and we'll being is my priority. I obviously don't know everything I should, and there will be no breeding until I do, so any tips would be awesome lol

@@Luna-hk5qg I have had 3 born a bunch of times...they do fine. and they take turns. But you may have to bottle feed them once they get bigger...We usually bottle feed them after 2 weeks, as we want our goats to socialize with humans, as opposed to being dam raised. People tell us all the time, that our baby goats are friendlier than most goats they have visited at other farms, when they are thinking of buying baby goats.

@@SurvivalistGardener Ok, and after 2 weeks when they start to be bottle fed, are they completely weaned from mom and brought into the house or their own stalls away from her? House seems easier because of how often they need to be fed, right?

@@Luna-hk5qg We take them away from their moms and raise them separately, not necessarily in the house. Usually we raise them in the house when they are an only child. If they have a sibling, they are fine being together. Once they are feeding well on the bottle, we sell them and let our buyers raise them and feed them, so that the new owners can bond with the goats themselves. And of course, we use the milk from the moms once the babies are gone, for our own household, and my wife makes every dairy product that people would otherwise buy in a grocery store.

He is doing great! He is 3 months old now and he has moved into our main barn with his half brother who is his daily companion and roommate. We are keeping them both as part of our breeding program for the future, since our older boys are getting on in years. Little Rudy is still the most loving, fun and cute little boy we have ever owned. Taking him in, saving his life, and raising him inside during that time, was one of the best decisions we have ever made.

SurvivalistGardener i have had two i bottle raised indoors, then later they moved outside. But i NEVER potty trained them! they wore diapers and i kept them in a humane makeshift pen when i wasnt right there with them. Wow impressive!

We were able to train him so that when he got the urge, he went into the box by himself. Eventually we took him back out with his siblings, because he was much stronger and able to fend for himself. We hand fed all the babies until they were 10 weeks old. He is still much more oriented toward people than any of his siblings, very loving, and would rather be with people (when given the choice).

He was less than 2 weeks old... way faster than it takes to house train a dog.

We have a homestead so our goats make milk for us all the time. So when we need to feed babies we take the mom's milk and we put that in baby bottles. That's what we did for this little guy. But you can get formula for goats specifically at Tractor Supply. Many of the people who buy goats from us do that.

Goats are herd animals and extremely social creatures. They have a very tough time being by themselves. They need some sort of companion, even if it is just the family dog during the day. They will follow you around like a dog if you let them. One thing you might try is putting her in a dog crate at night in the home. Use puppy pads on the bottom to catch any accidents, and we have even had some little ones hold their pee and poop all night, only to go outside when we take them out first thing in the morning. If a dog can do it, then a goat can do it.Just train them the same way you would a dog.

They are smarter than the smartest dog. They can be loving and effectionate (at least the Nigerian Dwarf breed is). They love praise, petting and rubbing their back/neck muscles. This little boy is over 5 years old now and he is still my best buddy. And has had many kids of his own now.

Yes. Stick with Nigerian Dwarf goats. Much friendlier and produce more milk than pygmys.

Eventually he/she will have to be able to go outside. They can live in a shed, but will need air, and protection from the elements, cold, rain, drafts, and too much heat. Make sure you do not let them feed on treated (pesticide) grass. Pick up my book on amazon- Secret Livestock of Survival, it talks about raising animals discretely, and talks specifically about raising goats.

Yes. It worked... And he was potty trained to go outside whenever he needed to go. We eventually put him back out with his siblings. (This video shows him as an adult : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZOggNuFt7Gxmas.html ) He was the first that we potty trained, but we have had many other baby goats that we brought into the house (that were the only kid born to a litter and goats dont do well by themselves) so each one we have potty trained to go outside. These goats are smarter than the smartes breed of dog, so it only makes sense that if you can potty/house train a dog, that a goat can do it. And EVERY goat that we house trained did so in less than a week.

The same way you would a puppy. When you see him start looking like he is going to pee, (or if he has already started to pee), move him to the pad and use reinforcement, like "go pee pee" and "good boy".

Pooping usually follows the peeing. Once we get them trained to go outside (they hold the pee and save it for outdoors), when we take them out and they pee, the poop usually follows thereafter. We have one girl that has been coming in the house for 5 months now, and she let's us know when she needs to go out.

I make my own out of fabric! Just put sanitary pads to make it disposable, the girls have cute ruffle butts :)
