This is very good info. I have never owned my own dog. But shared part of my life with family dogs. But we had property a large house lots of room. But i had been considering getting my own dog but now live in apts and have been thinking how in the world do you house break a grown dog or puppy when in an apt. This has really scared me off. I would never get an Austrailan Shepard because these hyper little things would find the living situation unbearable. Understandably! BUT you have made me less afraid of doing so. Training is so important. Consistance is the key. Your videos are great TY.

So I have a 5-6 month old recently and they sometimes wet themselves when I get close to them or sometimes when I try to carry them. I want to be able to pad train them or be able to take them outside. When he is outside he seems timid and doesn’t like to move around a lot, he’ll even try to hide. I want him to explore around, but also want him to be that timid dog while inside.

I bought the spray that leaves a smell for her to not poop on my carpet and she still goes, she goes out side put still sneaks in a poop inside. How do you get the smell off the carpet so she doesn't poop there again.

My 4 month old puppy weve had for 2 days now has been up most of the night. My kids and i got sick the night we brought the puppy home(flu) and my 3yr old is only comforted from me walking around holding him. I worry that not being able to set up good habits immediately with the puppy will make it harder later to establish the desired expectations. He jumped on the table twice this evening(unacceptable). Honestly idk how to convey to him that that isnt ok without a smack on the butt(i know not to do this) or putting him outside(hes young, we live in a secluded area with nocturnal predators, so, not happening). Is a firm no and removal from the table really enough?

my mini aussie is 7 weeks old we’ve only had her a few days so we’re doing the potty pads mostly at night and taking her out during the day and the only problem we’re having is she has yet to go number two outside she keeps doing it in the house. it’s been hard to potty train with having such horrible rain she hates the rain and she starts shivering so its been absolutely tedious for us but i try to get her outside every hour for about 10-15 minutes if i can stand it

If she’s that old. You’re going to have to crate train her. Leave her in the crate. Unless you’re playing with her (tiring her out) or taking her outside to use the bathroom. Crate. Crate. Crate. I know it’s tough. But it’s sooo efficient. Eve. With what he says in this video. Just combine it with crate training. The puppy will not poop or pee on it self in a small crate where it KNOWS it has to stay. Hope this helps

Thank you for your help. I received my pup two days ago. The pup is whining constantly in the crate and outside. Because if that I let her roam limited areas in the house until this morn when I noticed the poop and urine in different places. Crate training would probably be my best guess at this point. Crate just enough for them to lay down comfortably and they won’t go. Keep them in the crate for a few hours. Let them out and go outside directly every single time. Once they poop and pee they can go back inside and play for a bit and back in the cage. Repeat.

I just got my new Toy Australian Shepherd puppy last Saturday and he is eight weeks old. I always take him to the pads every hour and try to get him to use it. Sometimes, Zeke uses them, and other times he just chews on them or lays on them. Sometimes, I take him to the pads and try to get him to use them for five minutes straight and he just won’t. There comes a time when it’s the dog and not you I’ve tried everything I’ve stuck to a routine and my dog simply doesn’t like to poop outside he will poop 3 times outside and will wait for me not to look just so he can poop inside 2 min after he just pooped outside I’ve even taken him out after he comes back in at the normal time he tries pooping in the house and no matter how amazing I make it for him pooping outside he will go inside after he comes in. And I make sure there’s no smell left over I think that’s what makes him do it my puppy is just a stubborn dick head if I pet my other dog more than he likes he will piss looking me dead in the eyes ofc I stop him and put him outside and do the whole “omg ur the best dog in the world for going outside” but he doesn’t care and thinks he’s higher up than me or something. I’ve had to leave him alone for 4 1/2 hours once in his kennel and no accidents he went outside immediately so I know he can hold it if he really wants too and it’s not a small/ weak bladder. I understand what you’re saying when you say it’s always the owners fault but that’s very ignorant for you to say because that’s not true and you know that that’s not true or something that can be proven. And it’s very discouraging for you to tell owners It’s their fault when they’re coming to the your video for help and advice especially when they follow your help and advice and still it’s not working.

If I'm being honest, I kind of regret getting an aussie. I knew they were a handful but I guess I was under prepared. She digs in the yard, chews on everything she can, (Thank God she doesn't have pika like her brother. My sister has him and he just had emergency surgery because he's an idiot. He nearly died.) My Bailey likes to eat grass which can cause issues. And the kicker, she's still having accidents at 8 months!! HOW?! I've done everything in my power to make sure she got this one thing down yet nothings worked. She's crate trained and goes about 8 or 9 hours a night while we sleep without being let out to potty so I know she can hold it. She has no accidents in the crate, doesn't whine or bark at all at night. So why is she not choosing to hold it when out of the crate? And I have to be on top of her 24/7 because she's not allowed to have free roam of the house because we can't trust her. It's time consuming and exhausting. I let her out every 20 to 30 minutes because that's what my mother wanted but I think that did more damage than good. If we fail to let her out within this time frame or sooner she will choose to potty on the floor if I'm not on her. Usually by our front door or in the dinning room. 😩 The one thing I wanted her to get was the potty training! I don't think she's ever gonna get it. And she knows that outside is the potty area. I even did that whole bullshit stick with rewarding and praising her when she went outside, and letting her know I wasn't happy if she went inside. So that failed. We tried the bells but that failed as well. She would only ring them if you were in the kitchen. And half the time it was because she thought she'd get food. Or just to go out. Then we let her in the yard, which she is not allowed in alone, but she doesn't pay attention to going potty. Someone has to stand there and constantly remind her to go potty. She knows that the word "potty" means to go pee or poop. And you usually have to repeat it multiple times, even yell it, just to get her to go! And she won't potty on walks. I once took her to the trail for 2 hours and the whole time she wouldn't go. As soon as I got home I took her outside to potty, which she did. I brought her back inside and what did she do? Pissed on my floor. I'm getting frustrated and on the verge. I live with my mother and she has said that if Bailey isn't fully potty trained by a year then she has to go. Bailey will be a year in December. 🤷‍♀️ I'm losing my mind!!!! Now, she's not having as many accidents as she did when we first got her but I don't want her having any! I wanna give her some freedom but not if I can't trust her. She's a very smart dog so I'm confused as to why she's not fully potty trained yet. They say that some aussie take longer? Maybe I should take her to a potty training place. Maybe someone else can do better than I have.

I would honestly take her to get professionally potty trained. It took our mini Aussie so long so get trained. He’s now two and he’s finally potty trained. He still goes in the house though if we don’t take him out for a few hours or after he eats and drinks. Now we just got a new puppy two days ago and I’m having to relearn things on potty training, trying not to make the same mistakes I did with my other dog.

I have a 6 month old aussie, and she will go about 6 hours right now. She was spayed two weeks ago, and lost an hour (she was going from 10pm to 6am). I think the general rule is that for every month in age they can hold their bladder an hour at night. (So 6 months=6 hours.)

Yea, every hour on the hour isnt too helpful. Sure, on days that I'm home all day. But this isnt realistic. I even own my business and can set my own schedule. But even with that, this is impossible. Also, NO ONE is setting an alarm every hour of the night to wake up to bring the dog out. Also, there should be a period of time after eating/drinking for the stuff to break down. I think waiting after breakfast/lunch/dinner a good 20-30 minutes is needed for the food and drink to process. Also, if the dog is napping, im not going to wake her up because the 'hour' has hit.
@JaredPlotts
@JaredPlotts Жыл бұрын
I am all for "keep it simple". But both of you did not address one critical, universal factor in potty training... Humans. Need. Sleep. There is going to be a 4-5 hour period, in just about every household, where taking the pup out every hour, on the hour, is just not possible. We have a 9 week old. And in the eve, we push potty time to 90 min then 2 hours after midnight. This is obvs in the hopes there will only be one, minor accident from 2am-6am. And sure enough, there has been one every night during that window. I would like to see you all do a video that's a bit more pragmatic, or realistic, and addresses issues like the one I described. If some owner/customer of yours really had zero accidents, then kudos for them having the money or manpower to stick to 24 potty trips per day. For most working-class people, it's laughably impossible.

PLEASE HELP!!! MY HALF AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD HALF BOXER NAMED JAXON IS COMPLETELY UNTRAINABLE. He will not go in his own yard and he absolutely refuses to be on a leash. I don't mean just struggles and makes it difficult like I mean just lays down and flat-out refuses to walk on the leash. Treats positive motivation nothing will get him to walk on a leash nor will it get him to pee or poop in his own yard. We've just pretty much come to the conclusion that he's going to be an outside dog. We have done everything you just said for about 3 months and he has not budged an inch in his potty training. We will stay outside with him in the backyard for 1 to 2 hours at a time and he will just play and then come inside and immediately piss and poop on the floor we discipline him we put him back outside because we rent we have absolutely no choice he is destroying the floor at the entire house smells like piss. It is literally seeping between the cracks and starting to rise like there is actual water damage from his piss. We don't know what to do but get rid of him. And I also would like to know how in the hell any reasonable person is supposed to hold down a full-time job and only get 4 hours of sleep a night because I have to sacrifice an hour of sleep to go walk the dog four times in an 8 hour period. That is ridiculous and not doable. How about some potty training tips for people with lives and jobs and children 👍 this is absolutely insane I have never had a breed in my life that was this sweet but unfortunately I have never had a breed in my life that was this stupid. There is something seriously wrong with my dog I think. I know it may seem like I'm an aggressive person but I'm not I just don't know what else to do I can't give him to anybody because he's just a ticking Time bomb he will destroy their house. I know that I won't abandon him in a box on the side of the street and I know that if I give him to somebody else that there's a good chance that that might happen the way he's behaving. This dog stands no chance of having a happy life with any humans at this rate and I have no idea what to do. PLEASE HELP
