As an industrial electrician, we do all the concrete work for our jobs ourselves. I’ve never seen someone brush different parts of a slab at different times, nor have we ever stripped a form in the same day. Glad to know you can do these things under the right conditions👌🏻

shades2 Rebar doesn’t stop concrete from cracking it only stops the cracks from separating. You can’t pour a new slab over an old patio. Two or three years this is going to be nothing but spider webs. What a joke. Were still in business since 1980

Can you pour concrete right up against the house or do you need to prep the house in any way? I know you can’t pour it against siding and need to have space between bottom of siding, but what about the concrete pad the house may sit on? Should you tie it in or just pour up to it? And what about pouring at least part way, if not all the way, under a mobile home?

@Strange-Viking
@Strange-Viking 6 жыл бұрын
dont know its no guarantee to prevent cracking. Fibers help but With rebar in it the chance of cracking increases. One still puts it in though so when it does crack the pieces stay level and together. Besides its very easy to repair concrete. You can add in plasticers to prevent cracking too. Which also waterproofs it thus resulting in less cracking due to moisture build up. That also prevents rebar from coroding

Hey man, I love and appreciate your awesome vids! They’ve been very helpful for my crew and I! Thank you for taking the time to make them for us all! Question, You say it’s a 1% slope outward, what does that equate to with the bubble, like a quarter of the bubble past the line?
@dennismccullough6043
@dennismccullough6043 5 жыл бұрын
I believe the video said 1 1/2 % slope which would equate to approx. 2 1/4 inches over the 12 feet. A professional would use a "sight level" to record the elevation against the house vs the end of the patio.

Try getting some info from local ready mix supplier
@jayphillips4058
@jayphillips4058 6 жыл бұрын
1) If possible, stick to pouring when the overnight temps stay above freezing. If you can't, remember that the first night heat of hydration will help save your slab, but the second and third can be a heartbreaker. Concrete blankets, ground heaters, extra chemicals for set and increased heating and excavation costs really add to the square foot pricing. 2) 4000 psi concrete is a must in cold climates for freeze/thaw. 3) Pour as stiff as you reasonably can for a good finish, keep the water/cement ratio low. 4) Remember than chemical accellerants will affect the finish - it'll get sticky fast even in cold weather. Don't dawdle laying it out, and have good help who know how to hop to the finish. 5) You need about 1000 psi in your slab for it to be relatively free from the danger of freezing. 6) Make sure your sub-grade is free of ice and snow, and obviously don't wet it prior to the pour. 7) Use Type III cement in the mix if possible, but keep in mind it'll go off faster with HE and other chemicals. 8)Test each load with an infared or probe thermometer, it'll give you an idea of how the slab will go off. Also, it you get loads with temp variance, tell the supplier to get his act together and make sure they're relatively close to the same temps. Finishing a slab with (especially an interior) section dragging set time is a bear. 9) As always, oil forms. 10) Remember that ice-cold rebar in a relatively warm concrete mix can pose some quality problems. Cradle it and follow the rule about suspension height. 11) Don't get pressured into pouring when the weather isn't looking good - adverse weather problems multiply in cold weather pours. 12) Always, but always, pour on thawed ground. Pouring on frozen ground and/or subgrade nearly always causes expensive problems, most often resulting in tearout and a re-pour. It may take awhile to occur, but they will. 13) If a supplier in your area uses old-school calcium chloride pellets to accelerate the mix, make sure they dissolve it in water prior to adding it to the load. Just dumping the pellets in will make for a nasty looking finish. Too much makes a slab go crazy - almost impossible to get a finish, and then it will most likely spall and crack. Almost no one uses CaCl anymore - much better stuff around. 14) If you order hot water in the mix, make sure the driver also has it in his head tank. If water has to be added, cold water from a cold head tank can really screw things up. /24 years in the hauling and production end of things, and enjoy helping finish now and then, too. Good luck!

Hi I watched many of your videos and I found it very helpful, thank you. I have a question for you: Why you never use a concrete vibrator on a driveway?

A vibrator is only for deeper levels of concrete like foundations.

Does concrete need to be vibrated? I read all these articles and then no videos show it being done. My question would be for a slab with footers specifically.

That looked great. Wondering if I can get some input/advice for my own project. First, if I were to lay new concrete over existing concrete how thin can it be over the existing concrete? I have 100 year old driveway where there is only cement where the wheels of a car contact the ground. The area in between is dirt which I'd like to fill with cement. I'd like to make it a solid cement driveway and not have to sledgehammer the existing old concrete out. I also want to extend it out so it would be a bit wider beyond the existing old cement. I'd like to know how thin I can safely lay new cement over the old because our driveway goes out onto a city sidewalk. Would using your idea to make my driveway a solid cement driveway work? Or would it be best to take everything out?

I have a 5 car individual car port at my house (4 drivers, 4 cars) and I use the garage on the far end for myself but there’s two massive cracks in the concrete. I don’t know when the concrete was poured nor when it cracked but there is a significant heigh difference in level and slope. I use the garage as a gym but covered the concrete with 4 layers of sport mat surface and the question I have is, so I concrete over everything, concrete just the crack, concrete enough space to make it all level, remove ALL of the concrete and lay a brand new slab, or just build a 4” wood deck subfloor to put my gym mats on; flat.
@OdellCompleteConcrete
@OdellCompleteConcrete 4 жыл бұрын
either way will work, but the least expensive would be to grind it down and fill the crack
@slymee83
@slymee83 4 жыл бұрын
Odell Complete Concrete I mean it’s more than a crack to grind. There’s a 2”-3” gap between each broken piece of the slab and just grinding the high points would be a hell of a task. What would you recommend to use if I were to take the grind-then-fill method?

Glad I watched this first. I was ready to just throw concrete all over the place and see what happens...It seemed like the cheapest alternative, but realize now it won't work... 😁

LOL yeaaah at minimum you'll need a concrete rake (which can be made from spare lumber from the forms if necessary), a bull float, a broom (also called a mop because it's primarily used to help disperse the water that rises up and add a texture), a hand trowel, hand float, edger, and groover.

Is snow and freezing an issue for pouring a slab directly on soil or dirt? Should there be a base of some kind in northern states?

Thanks for taking the time to pout this video up online. Can i ask a few questions (in the UK btw): Why did you split it into two bits? Does the gap go all the way through the depth so the two slabs are not touching? You mentioned a slope away from house, how on earth do you level the concrete whilst creating a small but even slope? I have an existing garage concrete floor and am looking to extend it, do i need to ensure concrete is same/similar due to expansion/cracking etc. What does the rebar do in terms of the concrete properties? Obvious its stronger but does it increase its elasticity? [I ask due to the small ramp up (4-6" maybe) from the public road surface to the concrete is currently cracked and damaged, water gets between mortar and road]
@OdellCompleteConcrete

The joint is 25% depth of the concrete. Creating a weak place in the concrete, so when the concrete shrinks or contracts it will break on the weakest point.
