How To Pre-shade Without An Airbrush

While oil paints are (apparently) pretty daunting for the beginner, they're powerful and can single-handedly turn your model from zero to slightly above zero with just a few simple techniques. Also they're the easiest way to replicate all the cool shading techniques when brush painting.

I would definitely spend some money on good odourless thinners from someone like Winsor & Newton. You don't use much so it lasts forever.

It must be my screen, because no offense I can't tell the difference, plus putting on a varnish coat afterwards dissolves about 75% of you extra effort.

Uh......Sorry to tell you, what you're doing is, is called POST shading. You didn't do any PRE shading.
