great video, have collected m2's for a while, and though i have dabbled in some customization with wheel swaps and body part swaps, but i love the whole custom painting and modding of the cars here on yt, loved the polished mirror finish on the van, and i cant wait for the video when it is done!

That last bit cracked me up lol Nice your going through the step by step process in a series of videos, really great idea. Really shows how long each car takes to get that perfect finish, great stuff. Looking at your patreon rewards it looks to me like the $3 is the only give away tier? 🤔

I just started customizing a few weeks ago, I am NOT a perfectionist at all, but to prep my cars for either a shiny finish and clearcoat or to paint it, I do the following: 1. Sand with 600 grit. 2. Sand with 2000 grit. 3. Dremel polish. The result is a somewhat decent mirror finish, but it still has a lot of pits, etc. but that's what gives these things character. I don't need it to be 100% flat and smooth, just shiny. Just wanted to add this for anyone starting out so they don't think they need 20 different grades of sandpaper or need to sand their car for a month before painting. I spend an hour or two max prepping a car.

I just barely started also. Question after you polish the car do you paint right afterwards or do you clean the car with mineral spirits after polishing then paint? Also do you spray clear after a spectra flame paint job on a redline restore? Ty!
@bdanyluk
@bdanyluk 11 ай бұрын
@@Detoxingforlife I never did any special cleaning at all, just wiped off with microfiber rag, but my polish does not leave any residue...if yours leaves any kind of oily film, then yes, you should clean it off. I dont do spectraflame restores, but from what i have seen, all customizers use clearcoat on everything. Just make sure its compatible with your paint and doesnt ruin it...trial and error

I turn pens as well and the micromesh is wonderful. I magic marker the numbers 1-9 in the order they're supposed to be used. Also with hand sanding I use a spray bottle to wet the material.
@WheelsNThangs
@WheelsNThangs 5 жыл бұрын
Magic marker is a great idea! My issue is that I'm a little color blind with blues/greens so I'm not even sure what they are when new unless I can really feel the grit. Again, great idea so I'll be marking them now!
@drstrangefart
@drstrangefart 5 жыл бұрын
@@WheelsNThangs I have a set of pads that polished the CA finish on around 200 pens and the numbers are still as clear as when they were written. I had to do that because I ALWAYS lose the chart.

Great, great tips! I especially liked use gloves after buffing. I do have a question though. I f you have part of the project that don't have pits or scratches would you recommend skipping sanding steps? And if you have issued near body lines can you get the same results not using higher grit paper without sanding the lines?
@WheelsNThangs
@WheelsNThangs 5 жыл бұрын
If there is no pitting you really don't need to sand. Near the body line you just have to be careful :)

Looks like a Dodge A100 van or the body to the mystery machine. But why do you have to wet sand? Why can't you just sand it dry?

Wet Sanding Gives You Less Scratches . Plus the Grits go A Lot Finer . Wet Sanding is What Real Car Body Shops Use. It leaves A Nice Finish .
