Why though aren’t CrossFit people strong and good at cardio because my buddy I went to Marine Corps Bootcamp with did CrossFit and he would do 100-200 burpees every night without stopping in 10-15 minutes I believe he was a beast and lean as well

@firerose4271 I can't comment about the navy, but I can speak on female tankers. No one ever gave them shit about being female in a combat job. There's 2 reasons for it: 1. The females could file what the army calls an "equal opportunity " complaint. 2. Most us realize that operating a 72 ton killing machine is gender-neutral......most of us, anyway. Be prepared for 1 or 2 assholes that still live in the 50s. They may not say anything, but you may get a feeling that you're not welcome...you certainly are now though.

I was a Navy Recruiter for a few years (89 - 92) based in San Diego, and that Charlie Sheen SEAL movie abomination had come out. I can`t tell you how many people through my door wanted to be a SEAL. So, being a good recruiter, I took the ones that were "serious" over to BUDS to talk to a Senior Chief there (can`t recall his name, but he had an office right there on the patio to the left when you come in past the quarterdeck). A number of times, while sitting there waiting for the Senior Chief to come around, my potential recruit would have the opportunity to observe what goes on around there first hand. *Many* would leave with a much less "gung-ho" attitude. A very few were more motivated. I considered that the first step in screening the wheat from the chaff.

Man I have huge respect for the way you keep it real about training. I kept an index card with my program written on it taped to my door. 100 PU’s/SU’s every night in my barracks room (concrete floor, had no carpet) with important emphasis on correct form. Ran an obstacle course that was close to my barracks, then pull-ups focused on improving form.

I signed up and got assigned to class 137. I ran and ran and ran, all over Camp Pendleton Marine Base as a young Navy Corpsman waiting to go to BUD/S. That was 1985, when I got my orders and had to train up and transfer over. All we had was space...space to *run*! Just run, run, run! Didn't know shit about SEALs, other than what I found in a book called "Medic" I found in my local library prior to enlisting. Hadn't even seen "The Frogmen" movie! All I knew was from that book and some Soldier of Fortune articles. But...What was made clear was: Just like Chadd said...Don't over do it. If you show up and they find out (and they WILL find out) you can do 500 pushups? They WILL make you do 5000! Those instructors? NOTHING gets past them! They will break you. And if you ain't what they consider a "Team Guy"? You will be gone. They will get rid of you. Train to pass the PST and don't worry about the rest of the physical stuff. The mental stuff will be hard enough.

I think the most I ever got was like 15. He's correct about people are built different. When I was in ITB a buddy of mine (from the same bootcamp platoon) was wearing full gear and a saw around his neck outside in formation waiting to move out. There was a pullup bar setup at the corner of the staging area. Dude proceeded to pump out 30 pullups with ease wearing the SAW. He even acted like #20 was a struggle....then rapid fired 10 more and just stopped.

I did 13 years as a trainer and I disagree. Strength is basic and muscular endurance is dependent on strength. I have trained myself both ways and have seen a big difference. When I trained bodyweight chin ups only(underhand grip - they are easier than wide grip/overhand), my personal record was 18 reps. This many reps is called muscular endurance. When I did a training cycle that first focused on strength, I would do sets of 5 reps while holding a 65# db with my feet, or sets of 3 with 85#. This is real strength training. Once I got as strong as possible, if I were to then train only doing bodyweight chin ups, I would get to 21 reps per set, with my personal record being 22. Without the heavy lifting I would never get past 18. Muscular endurance depends on strength.

I believe Rangers require a 12-mile ruck test, which I don't think exists in BUD/S. From what I have seen from Army guys, the big, strong guys performed better on the rucks and the leaner guys performed better on the runs. So, a level of weight training will benefit leaner men. I'd say work on a linear progression program that focuses on squats and deadlifts. If you perform the program strictly you can get very good results in a few months. I'd also work on my upper body--bench and shoulder presses--but that's just me. Focus on compound lifts to strengthen your ability to perform body movement patterns under resistance. In other words, don't waste time on the so-called "functional" training. If you have a few months, you can get considerably stronger in that amount of time. Find a basic linear progression program and follow it religiously. There are a few programs to choose from, but an idiot-proof program for beginners is Starting Strength.

@@Anonymous18817third time.. You post the same pasted comment as if you ate a paperhanger.. 20/15/23 @firerose4271 hello rose, you keeo repeating with c&p the same message over and over. I told you earlier this week, do the excercises to get fit and shut the yabbering. You spend too much time asking long winded multi point questions. No obe cares what you have to say until they know you can do the hard yards. Right now your hard yards are spent rabbiting away on your keyboard. I now have you on my radar because I now think you are a distraction agent/troll, a"Tokyo Rose" with an agenda to; a/ distract or b/ solicit comments that provide you with reading and writing comprehension excercises. Just do the physical excercises and post a vids of your progress and then do the keyboard excercises. Chadd deserves better from you, we all deserve better from you and you most of all deserve better for yourself. Frankly, I deduce you are a keyboard princess with an estrogen issue or the deliberate presentation of decoy estrogen. You talk like a duck, write like a duck and flap like a duck. I'll be honest and upfront with you, I'm on your tail, at your six and locked on. "Nuff" said. ATB. Migs

@@Anonymous18817 not you again… For anyone reading, this person has been posting this same exact type of comment on MANY different SEAL’s KZfaq channel for potentially even a few years now. They have even changed their name and picture in the past. Many different people, including myself have responding to these comments with genuine and helpful advice, yet this person ignores those responses and continues to post these same comments. It’s like this person is doing this for propaganda’s sake. Whoever this person is, they’re not going to BUD/S, so don’t waste your time responding.

Am an old fart chuckling like hell bout Chad & them damn yoga mats, LOL Hell I can hang from a pull up bar & rip out some bean blasters but not even thosa propel my chubby old butt up over that bar. You young dudes out there strutting around like barnyard chickens back in the day before my great-aunts would wring their necks for dinner, y’all stop struttin & sweating & gruntin all over them yoga mats & do what Chad says now.

I'm gonna try out when they allow hot 🔥 showers and 8 hour per day of sleep 😴. Oh, I also prefer 3 meels a day. Oh, and absolutely no mud or dirt. Oh and no ocean swimming, heated pool only. Oh and no screeming. Oh and... 😶

Good advice for doing the hard stuff, but doesn't do much for addressing the specificity of training. "just do more hard stuff" isn't how you train for anything you want to be good at. Everyone doing any selection is doing hard stuff, "hard" isn't the answer.
