Alanna Zingano i almost didn’t believe this until i personally saw him sitting in his cabana working. i didn’t want to disturb him but i’m remarkably interested in what kind of perks are offered back to him. in good taste i didn’t want to ask. but obviously he is the best marketing campaign royal Caribbean can ask for. he’s on the cruise tv channel for that matter. he’s obviously a business man who must have worked out a deal that benefited all parties. i’m just interested in what kind of deal was made. if you feel comfortable enough please ask on my behalf. navigator to the new coco cay was my favorite cruise so far! thank you alanna for your hard work.

Laurie Grube, I read elsewhere that Super Mario used the 15-month hiatus during years 2020/2021 to move to Aruba, where he enjoyed one of his favourite pastimes: Scuba diving.

Great job on this series. very good stuff. just curious how many people are out there doing this. also if there are any relationships with hotels that people could leverage instead of paying rent on a condo for home base. I travel extensively as a consultant, had a colleague that travelled so much that he decided to put his belongings in storage and move out of his apartment. he just stayed in a hotel when he came home and usually used points.

Good question! Apparently there are a lot of folks out there, they make it into their full time living. Very similar to Mario right now. He has his place in Miami but he is actually out of the country..

Has Mario been through any scary bad weather at sea? Has he ever become sick (not motion related) while on board? If so, how did he get through it? In addition to his down to earth, common sense intelligence, I enjoy listening to Mario bc he seems like a kind, can do type of guy. I've been on 3 RCCL cruises so far and loved them all. Im taking my first solo cruise next week. Big step for me... Thank you. Hope to see more from Mario expanding on this topic. I wonder if any women have done this long term?

Thanks for watching, so glad you enjoyed! He basically visits his home base in between sailings to check mail, do laundry, have doctor's appointments etc. And then makes it back on the ship by all aboard.

So he never sleeps at his home base? I would think every once in a while the schedules for the cruises you want to take won't mesh to the same day of return and leave from the same port. Unless you totally stay on only one ship.

I am suprised he is not saying that by choosing one or two lines you get so many perks. So he is RC member by now he is top class for sure. No way he is paying for internet, or even drinks. Celebrity is owned by RC, because we have cruised so many times with them we are zenith class which means we have access to Michael's club, so all the drinks there are free and we are talking top shelf. Hell I usually go there get my scotch and go upstairs to smoke my cigar. Internet is free, we also get upgrades to cabins.

Assuming you always stick to the same type of cabin, is it cheaper to get a cruise/cabin if you buy it through a site like Last Minute cruises where they’re trying to fill up the last cabins (and you don’t care where on board you wind up)?

Gregory, for the average cruiser yes this is a great option if you don't care where your room is and if you are able to take last-minute cruises. If you are asking in regards to Mario's scenario, no this is not a cheaper method since he books as early as 2 years out or as soon as it becomes available for booking which gets him great deals. And since he does so many back to back cruises on the same ship, he wants to be in the same room and not bouncing around.

Herb Clark, I read elsewhere that Super Mario spends about 10 days a year at his condominium in Miami, U.S.A. That also allows him the advantage of having the option of spending some hours at home between arriving at the end of one cruise c. 7 a.m. and leaving on the next cruise in the afternoon. Last time that I checked, he was doing his own business, working about 5 hours per day, while living on cruise-ships since about year 2000. That is also a great strategy for anyone else: find ways to earn income through your travels or while travelling...

I learned quickly no matter how big the ship there are only so many exits and long lines can drive me crazy both getting on or off.

Thanks Alana for the interviews. I am Diamond with RCCL on track to become Diamond plus next year and hopefully will become Pinnacle if I am “loyal to Royal”for six years with 90 days a year... will be faster if I follow Mario’s footstep..LOL... Anyway, my question is, what is a typical day for Mario onboard? Surely he must have heard the same jokes from the CD and watched the same show many many times! My record was 6 b2b cruises and we found the repeating shows a bit tiring....

Chun Che Lance Fung, there are several options and many other activities to enjoy aboard a cruise-ship. You certainly do not have to go to repeated shows if you do not wish to do that. Plenty of other things happening every day and every evening during a given week. Also note that you can do alternating itineraries even with the same cruise-ship (e.g., one week, it goes to Eastern Caribbean; the next week, it goes through the Western Caribbean). Alternately, as Mario does it, you can alternate cruise-ships and regions (e.g., from Caribbean to trans-Atlantic to Mediterranean to Panama Canal....et cetera). There is no end of changing itineraries, dining options, entertainment options, and activities per cruise-ship and between cruise-ships within the same fleet....and then, of course, you have dozens of other cruise-lines to explore if you ever live long enough to try all the dozens of ships in each of the dozen or more cruise-lines (about 3 cruiselines under the Royal Caribbean Group and about 9 cruiselines under the Carnival Corporation Group).....

Great question! Mario's home base is an apartment on land. He will visit in between sailings and do laundry there.

I think Super Mario is cutting himself short by being LOYAL TO ROYAL exclusively. Even if it's just for the change, an something at least a little different, he should periodically try some other cruise lines. He hasn't been on anything else for 20 years. That's kind of extreme.

well being that he's developed in his years if he tried to go on the new ships they're more like Disneyland on water over the top and and family oriented and you have to get used to saying excuse me every 5 secondsafter 35 cruises myself trust me it's nice just to be out at Sea and been able to gather your thoughts but if yourbudget-minded there is a way to do a 1-year Cruze for about fifteen thousand per person as long as you have three other very close friends that wouldn't mind sharing a cabin with youif you're able to put the third and fourth guests in your cabin a lot of cruise companies will give you a deep discount on the third and fourth a lot of times all they would have to pay the taxes and pork charges then you take that whole number divided by 4 it would average out to about $670 for a 10 to 12 day excursion

kings17court, at first glance, I could understand why you might feel that way. However, when you research how many dozens of ships are in one large cruiseline's fleet(s) (e.g., Carnival has about 9 lines and Royal Caribbean has at least 3 lines), there are endless opportunities to experience variety (e.g., over 700 ports of call around the world; many durations of cruises, from 3 nights/weekends to Grand Voyages to World Voyages; different sizes of cruise-ship; different themes; different cuisines, activities and excursions; up to 20 categories of cabin in a single cruise-ship, et cetera). The other thing to keep in mind is that with a loyalty-programme as rewarding as Royal Caribbean's, it becomes cheaper to cruise, the more that you cruise within the same fleet. Ultimately, Pinnacle Club members like Super Mario earn FREE cruises every 350 cruise-points (just 175 cruise-nights for a solo traveller like him). Finally, where another cruise-line will give equivalent or better matching status, it would definitely be worthwhile to try that sometimes: e.g., if MSC and Celebrity would match his ultimate multi-Pinnacle status....
