I get a lot of questions in regards to training to be a Marine Raider and Recon Marine. While these are great aspirations we all must start on the yellow footprints. After months of work and planning, Josh Honsberger and I have developed a 12-week training plan called USMC PREP for $35, to assist those individuals looking to take up the challenge.

Awesome Video. I've been out for 5 years and when kids ask me what to do, I give them the max Pft requirements and tell them to continuously try to meet it. I think that the mental understanding of continuous improvement is something that is best driven home before they get to boot camp

There's nothing you can do to prepare for mind games and that's all Marine Corps boot camp is, for example you'll run back and forth till you go crazy then roll around in the sand pit for the dumbest reasons. It's designed to break you, so just suck it up and push through it. It definitely does help being physically fit.

damn i wish i knew some of these things before i ship monday haha. I'm in great shape but the recruiters definitely don't strain the importance of training before you go in. It also depends on what recruiting station you come out of. My recruiters work us pretty hard whereas others in the surrounding cities do not and it shows at the annual poole functions. Thank you for making this video. Joining the military and becoming a U.S Marine has been a dream of mine. I’ve been preparing myself mentally and physically for the last year and a half. It’s been a rollercoaster. I was obese (250-55lbs) and now I’m a few pounds shy of my BMI (197lbs) and hopefully just a few weeks away from boot camp. I took this as encouragement to be the best I can be. Thanks!!

5:28 - 5:33 ..................you can also do that from the foot end of your bed, or even your dining room table (if it is strong enough and long enough). You bend down all the way so that your head is less than 6 inches from the floor and you're facing upside down. What this does is strengthens the entire lower half of your back so that you can carry more weight on your legs because half of that weight is being carried by the muscles in your back, not any of the muscles in your legs (for example, carrying a wounded person across your back with a firemans carry). It also stretches your spine a bit, but I don't quite know how that is a benefit to your overall health. Maybe you wake up quicker because your back muscles don't atrophy while you sleep.

If you cant do 6 or 7 pull ups you will receive some extra attention to get you to speed or out

I've been debating what I want to do with my life for a while. Not because I have no clue but because there's a few things that I wanna do that are very different. My top 2 careers are either becoming a veteranarian or joining the Marines. Im not old enough to do either, but i do believe I have a healthy body, it's not outstanding but I do go to the gym and more importantly wrestling has taught me to go beyond what your capable of even when your about to fall apart. I've learned that mindset and I've been able to push beyond my limit. I'm not trying to say I'm above average because to be honest, I'm not, but it is something I'm working on. Basically, I do believe if I keep my workout plan, if in the future I do decide to join the Marines, I'll stand out at least a little bit. But right now, I'm not sure what to choose.

Man this is perfect, I have been looking for a structured routine since I talked to my recruiter and got into the DEP. Looking to get this ASAP as I ship in late January. Just one question before I do, am I able to use this without a slew of work out equipment? I only have access to some dumbbells and a treadmill due to my work schedule, and no access (or the monetary means) to a gym that fits into my schedule. You just got yourself a new sub, your tips and charisma have inspired me to hopefully do more when I get into the Corps, wanted to get to Recon then into the scout sniper program, now maybe MARSOC is in my future. I was playing baseball in college so i was in ok shape. Not great but ok. Well 8 weeks I laid on a couch, drank beer and ate pizza . Didn't even rehab it. Just went to boot. I suffered. I did 5 pull ups, 1 1/2 run in 12:45 and my sit ups just made it on the nose. Enough where I didn't have to go to pcp but it probably would have been better if I would have. Started training and recruit next to me is breezing through formation runs , looking like he is enjoying the run, yelling cadence back etc, and there I am freakin dying, sucking wind. That also draws DI attention and u don't want that. Please listen to these hard chargers. You will benefit yourself. Semper Fi

Hey man can you make a video about why silkies are fantastic. I’m not in the military but when I run obstacle course races and trails I wear my spartan helmet silkies which are violently short one for maneuverability and two sweat pants offer the opportunity to skip leg day silkies turn heads and make calves the new biceps. Well I wish you long runs and short shorts Sincerely dirty mike and the boys.

I love IT!!!! Man! I should have been a Marine instead of an ARMY Puke......I was in Devil Pups in 1985 at Camp Pendleton and it was so much fun. When I got to ARMY Boot and Air Borne School, it was a joke. Don't get me wrong, I loved the service, but USMC is whee it's at!

I’ve been waiting for you guys to start specifying What aspiring Marines can try to do to get their PFT score up. Nick, I really want to do what you did. FORECON first, then do my MARSOC A&S and qualify, then be a Raider for the rest of my career in the USMC. You guys are huge inspirations to me and I can only hope to be as good as you guys are. I want to push myself to be the best Marine I can, preferably the best in my unit. I had one question though. I live in North Carolina, and I know you guys are set up somewhere in NC. Can I get the address of The Raider Project building so I can come over there and meet you guys? Or would that not be appropriate? Once again, thank you for being fucking awesome. Keep up with the great videos.

Tamaryon lawrence I’m currently a Junior in HS, so I don’t want to be super obnoxious and bitchy. It’s just I’ve always wanted to be a Marine since I was like 6 years old, and only recently, like a few years ago did I find out about MARSOC. I was originally going to do FORECON right out of SOI if I had the chance, but now that I know about MARSOC, I’m still going to try and do FORECON because I feel like it will be a stepping stone and it will allow me to be more experienced when I get into Irregular Warfare and the stuff Raiders do. If I can, I’m going to get that parental sign off so I can get a basic training date at 17, because I want to get in there and start doing shit ASAP.

James, TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR BODY you will need your ankles, knees and hips. Sometimes you may want it bad but your body will not be able to do it. MARSOC is a young mans game and you need to stay fit and healthy.

I was attached to 2d Marine Raider Battalion (it was 2d Marine Special Operations Battalion back then) from 2007-2011. I met Nick and would shoot the shit with him when he would come down to the supply warehouse. Great dude and always cool to talk to. Dan New is actually my youngest son's godfather.

luckily, when I joined the Army I didn't have to "prep" because my friends and I grew up playing sports like hockey, year round. Kids today rarely play any sports or hell, even ride bikes around the neighborhood anymore. They are the ones that need to do "prep" courses just to have a chance to succeed in any physical activity, because they have never done any physical activities.

Great training video and advice too! When I was on Recruiting Duty in Texas from ‘03-‘06, I would rather take a “doughnut” (zero) before picking up a dirtbag! Quality over quantity! We are the smallest Brotherhood compared to the rest of the military forces, but becoming a Marine was the greatest title I ever EARNED! Semper Fi Brothers, keep those videos coming!

Nick Koumalatsos HAHA! I appreciate that! It was the toughest yet most rewarding obstacle the Corps threw at me after boot camp Brother! I looked at it like Quality Control for the Marine Corps’ future. Contrary to the belief of civilians AND Marines in the fleet, 95% of my ASVAB top tier scoring Poolees BEGGED for the 03XX MOS! Where the phrase “Dumb Grunt” came from, I’ll never know! Hahaha

Thanks for all the videos you guys are putting out! Have a quick question. I am 19 and made the decision that I wanted to join within the next year or two. I have been strength training/powerlifting for the past 3-4 years and have a good foundation of overall strength. My total is 1205. To see where I was at I did the PFT and got about a 286. Perfect on everything except for the run. What advice or tips would you give me or anyone to better prepare myself for bootcamp or harder options down the road while already being in decent shape. Would you recommend that I continue with my current powerlifting programming and just tac on my runs and swims? Any feedback is appreciated!
