Be patient and try different tactics. I can't tell you how many failures it took to get success, even to this day I fail 6 out of 10 times. You must have patience while breeding Discus. There is a reason why they are expensive. It takes time for the parents to figure it out. As far as why do they eat their babies, probably over a 100 reason why they do this. It's a puzzle that every breeder has to solve. Steve Heller

I just use straight RO water now with a little crushed coral for a buffer. In 2 years of research I have found that these fish do not take hardly any nutrients from water and most comes from their diet. I have developed a food that gives them almost everything they need. The key is fulvic acid which has changed the way I think about Discus. It is a carrier to the cells. This is a byproduct of humic acid on the cellular level and allows super absorption of all their vitamins and minerals. The results have been amazing. I about to release the product in the next month. As far as mixing I have super hard water and it takes my soft neutral water to levels that are not conducive to the wild species I keep. Even a small percentage agitated my Wild Altums, it also could be a toxin in my water that can't filter out. This is another benefit of fulvic (Gold not brown) it binds heavy metals which does not penatrate to the cellular level. They are my barometer for my new system. I have never seen blue/green turquoise and I call razor silver in captive/wild Altum Angelfish. This has been 2 years of research working with scientists, chefs, farmers, and biologists. I have logged approximately close to 1000 hours on this subject and it has changed how I look at the Amazon, the water and fish diets in general. Steve Heller
