Thank you so much for the Willow handbook! & for your selfless work & shares! I'm just starting to grow my own willow from scratch & no experience. I find your videos, websites & the handbook amazingly helpful! Very down to earth & easy to understand. Tom in Tulla told me you would be brilliant! :) Much appreciated! Krisztina

I've been dabbling in basketry for a few years, but always had problems soaking in the winter as I don't have the space for a trough so I use soaking bags. Wallpaper steamer! Genius! Thank you.

My gradfather used to make fig picking baskets for us,he knew a lot about weaving,and I know so little ,but thanks to You Sir I am starting bit by bit. The book is awesome!!!I In winter I am going to propagate willow near river bank ,because river is erroding it`s bank,and I intend to stop this process(since the goverment doesn`t give a sh.. about it),plus I ll get willow rods for my baskets in the future. Once again thnx a lot and greetings from Croatia.

Great video, thank you for sharing this info. I'll wait until the leaves have fallen from our willow before I cut it and will look forward to making a basket next year.

Thank you for your videos, they are very easy to follow - I am an absolute beginner . I have been given some willow and i'm hoping to make very simple projects with primary school children. I attempted the fish but realised that my willow was too dry and brittle. I have used a steam stripper method to soften and rehydrate the willow. After steaming, how long will the willow stay flexible ? Also after steaming , do I leave the willow wrapped up in the tarpaulin until I use it . The steam has created lots of water and I wasn't sure if it was good to leave the willow sitting in it . Thank you

Hello! I have just purchased your video guiding me through weaving a skib. On the materials list, you use 40 seven to eight foot rods, I do have those but am holding them back for another project. Are they for the uprights? Could I get by with six footers? Or, is it a diameter concern? As you can surmise, I am very new at this. On another note, I find your video to be very professional--clear and easy to follow which I greatly appreciate. I'll happily use my seven footers if need be and then source more for the other projects I have in mind. Thank you so much for the inspiration.

The 40 big rods are for the base sticks and the uprights, big 6 foots would be fine as it's a shallow basket. Thanks for your support too!

Please could you tell me where I cut this years growth from the sticks I planted last year. Do I cut them to ground level or leave a stalk to produce a ball? Thank you.
@BigGreenArt
@BigGreenArt 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mrsgbee, If you cut to near ground level you'll get most vigorous regrowth, otherwise cutting at knee level gives you a ball from which rods grow, and are easier to cut, but less vigorous cos the plant is growing the stem also. Try both! B

I've got some buff willow, can I steam that? And if you do steam it does it need to mellow after as well or can it be used straight away?
@BigGreenArt

Not sure! It's been through hours of boiling to get buff, so I imagine it wouldn't mind a sauna!
