Great video! My biggest problem often is that when I convert from RGB to CMYK, it fades some colors out as CMYK can't process overly bright RGB colors. To counter this, I usually go to Image -> Adjustments -> Replace Color. Then I tweak the colors until I'm satisfied with it.

How come you start in RGB then convert to CMYK? Doesn't that mess with your colors?
@Lupita94294
@Lupita94294 9 ай бұрын
It usually does, my professor told me that if you are planning to print or doing this professionally for printing purposes, you should always use CMYK when painting. But her way probably just works for her! Some colors can get changed and also not be as accurate when you convert from RGB to CMYK.
@BlueeeBanisters
@BlueeeBanisters 8 ай бұрын
you can always ask your local printer if they have a printer that allows rgb, mine has one and the colors were pretty accurate, but it also comes out really nice when you convert it to cmyc, it looks different on the digital canvas but once you have the print youll see the similitude to the digital rgb one

Hi! New subscriber to your channel, thank you so much for such an informative and generous video. I am an illustrator that was doing traditional work for such a long time, only out of fear of the dreaded Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop learning curve. I don't like the fact that it doesn't feel like it does when you are sketching freehand. Eventually i made the leap into the digital world, not on Procreate but a different app. I always thought that with Procreate or any other raster app I would have to go to illustrator anyway to be able to vectorize (I hate that) to get good quality prints. That doesn't seem to be the case!! As you are clearly printing them and they seem to be of fantastic quality. Any tips for someone trying to jump on to Procreate?and printing from home?. Also love your illustration showing El Retiro! It's so beautiful..

I think it’s the best quality PSD format in Adobe 1998 RGB or P3 color space. P3 is recommended for newest Mac user, and CMYK is for oldest printer or for press. Your printer use 8 color not only 4 . When you use photoshop and paper & printer combination you will get usually good or very good results. P.S. I recommend calibration for both your monitor (iPad and Mac book) in same color space (P3)

Thank you for the video Asia! I was researching printers for at home printing - I have an Epson workforce pro which prints really high resolution and b/w comes out perfect, whilst when printing large areas of flat color the dots are pretty visible looking close. I thought those are because it just has cmyk ink (compared for example to pro100), it looks like Pixma is the same, do you experience that as well a little? Not sure if there’s some trick around it, I also tried a bunch of different paper (best result with Epson Archive Matte). Thank you in advance and I hope you see this comment 🖤

Is there a way to do this with other softwares? I use Adobe Fresco for most of my artwork, but am unsure how to print to a canvas. Should I just bite the bullet and get Procreate, or will the prints come out just as good? For the particular project I’m working on, I need to print it on a large canvas, probably around 5 by 7 foot, so I’ll need to get it printed somewhere else. Any recommendations as to where I can order it?

Have a few questions: - Do you cut the paper after printing? Or send it as is? - How do you handle margins in your printfile? Do you add them for framing purposes, if so, how? - Why do you pick that specific color profile in the printer to print with? - how do you package larger prints to prevent damage?
@AsiaOrlando
@AsiaOrlando 3 жыл бұрын
Hi :) well to your questions it all depends on what you want to achieve, and it's case by case, same as margins. I do use a paper cutter and sometimes a scissors, the color profile I use is the one in the video, and the larger prints, yes I have to pack them carefully to prevent damage in a tube :)

Did you add these in the the digital images before sending for print or are these margins added in some configuration setting in photoshop?

what about gradients? im looking to buy a really good home printer ( im used to going to a printing press for digital printing ) but is there something at home that can match that quality or close when it comes to gradients please? on the home printer i have it looks like it switches colours, too obvious, bad quality.. but can this method work please? thank you

Hi 👋 to be honest I never encountered that issue, I would try to print on higher resolution, maybe its setting the print as “draft” or low quality to save ink.. But hard to tell 🤔

Is that possible to paint from RGB and convert it to CMYK later? Wouldn’t it mess the color/make the color change later on? If so, is there anyway to make sure the printing color turn out same like what we see on our laptop? I humbly wish u reply on my question. Cs I really need answer about this for my college final project. Thank you in advance

Hello, illustrator and former print company employee here! You can't print colours in CMYK to match RGB colours you see on screen, it's not possible for CMYK printing to make those colours unfortunately. If you are creating something for print, it's always advised to create your document as CMYK and start there instead of converting it to CMYK later, this will avoid any disappointment when you come to print. You may be able to adjust the colours when you've converted it to CMYK to make them brighter or more saturated, but they may not be able to match totally if your RGB colours were really bright - I hope that helps!

Hi there,i would be really thanksful if you could answer my question too. I worked my whole drawing process in CYMK but when i got the print it was awkwardly dark,and if i increase the brightness it would ruin the overall contrast of my painting. It's really frustrating .The weird thing is this only happens if it is my own digital painting.The other images i got printed are fine. I would really appreciate it if you could help me as i searched everywhere and no where could find any answer. thank you very much!@@amybuckley4292

Hi !! 👋 I was wondering why you don't work on a CMYK mode on Procreate instead of RGB and convert after on photoshop. Is there reason for that? Thank you very much in advance for your response ! Best regards

Hi Asia, your videos are excellent and filled with very useful information. I just watched the video on “Preparing Your Digital Artwork for Print” and was curious why you go through Photoshop to print instead of going directly from Procreate which I noticed you said was you favorite APP.? If you have printed directly from Procreate what were the problems that resulted in you going through Photoshop fore printing? I appreciate what I have heard from you so far and look forward to you response. Thanks in advance for your help. Best regards, Tom Williams

Hi Thomas, you can definitely print from Procreate and I did with no issues. I use Photoshop to adapt my work to different paper sizes as I illustrate in big format but sometimes print in A5. It’s just comes down to personal preference, and how I’m use to work. it’s totally subjective :) but I had no issues either way

If you are planning on printing your work isn’t it better to set up the canvas as CMYK before you start painting? I did a whole painting and took it to print and it ruined the colours because I painted it in RGB!
@AsiaOrlando

Hi Jio, it might be. For me like I said in the video if something required it, I would go straight to CMYK for printing. But sometimes I will print something that I was not originally thought for print. I never experienced mayor color changes :) I think is more of a personal choice and demand of each job 🤗

I spent weeks working on an illustration in Procreate, the resolution is fine and it’s in cmyk but when I printed it the colors were dark and I don’t know how to remedy this. I’ve been an artist for most of my life and this format is the one that I feel most like giving up on. It’s nearly impossible to get a good result. Can anyone offer any real advice?

I’m also wondering how you went from a full canvas with no margin to a stunning print with a lovely white margin around the edge. Is this something you set up via your printer I wonder? Another great video. I love your art and especially your colour palette choices … so calming!

She might have a different answer for you but this is what I found out. When you do prints that fit the size of the whole page the printer/paper settings automatically do it for you (her's was 1 A3 print for example). Even when I print out bookmarks and stickers I noticed that it will alter or shrink the image size a bit to fit on the page and leave a border. That's why I like using Canva so I can utilize the ruler and page alignment feature. There might be more to it but this is what I have learned when printing out art.

I haven't quite figured out how it would work when you try to put 2-4 small prints (4×7 prints) on one page and still be able to see the nice border Hopefully I'll figure that out soon😅

300dpi is recommended for printing, but your resolution also needs to be high enough to take advantage of the 300dpi. idk if i understood your comment, but drawing at 600pixels(resolution) is definitely too small to print without seeing pixels when printing imo. i usually draw at over 2000 or more

The ink tank system appears to be much better than the cartridge system kzfaq.infoUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 and a lot cheaper to run. The machine was easy to set up. A small point but I thought they'd be a USB cable included to help with the set up but there was none. I've been using it now for a few weeks and it seems like a good product and superior to my previous printers which were all troublesome HP machines.
