Holy crap man, your channel is so underrated. I'm big into bushcraft etc. and just wanted to search some preservation methods on meat w/o refrigeration and here you are. Your 2022 trailer was awesome btw. I hope your channel blows up! Good work man, keep it up.

@@WildBushGrit of course! I honestly did not expect your content to be so well done. Looking at your current content, you quite literally cover everything I'm about. We live in Minnesota so fairly relative to your environment. I'll be binging your video's over the next few weeks lol. Take care!

Oh wow, I didnt know Salmon could be found so far in-land. This is amazing! Kokanee I guess? Must be really fun! The corning method was so delicious, I'll just add it to my array of best practice for cooking fish, it wasn't just 'preserved' it was enhanced! My wife loved it too. Let me know when you try some of these methods I'd love to get your feedback!

corned fish is best cooked in an aqueous solution (fish stew). The water removes a large percentage of the table salt...giving it a better taste.

Hey, what was the temp of the dehydrator for those 24 hrs? Also, any difference between fresh and salt water fish when doing this?
@WildBushGrit
@WildBushGrit 2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, did I forgot to mention it? it should have been around 140-150F. For fresh water fish, I would do the same thing, you will mostly lose texture, as fresh water fish tend to be more delicate. But I would do exactly the same thing. Lemme know if you try anything here! and a follow up on fresh water fish would be appreciated. Take care!

Hey, any advice on how to reconstitute the dried fish if you don't want to eat it in the dried form?
@WildBushGrit
@WildBushGrit 2 жыл бұрын
Hello! I think knowing beforehand what you want to do will make you choose one method over the other one. The slice and dry is a very 'survivalist' method. My guess is you could throw it in soup or sauce, but you will always have some hard pieces that will not rehydrate properly, hence its better to pulverized it and mix with something, at this point its purely protein, you're not trying to enjoy it :). For soup, and sauce I would suggest the brined method, but you need to soak it 48hr, changing the water every 12hr, to desalt and rehydrate it, then you can do whatever with it. I love to cube them, rolled in flour and deep fry them. Cheers!

@@WildBushGrit oh you better believe that I already did. :) Thank you for your response. I am trying to learn salt curing for if the power goes out for an extended period of time.

@@washburnbilly Yeah that's super useful, also check for pemmican which is great too. I remember in Africa people where also salt curing and smoking fish until dried like sticks, these things would last forever.
