If you keep dead starfish without preserving them, they will continue to stink and smell like something terrible!

Thanks for this video but…I think I screwed up. We put the starfish in a bucket of bleach with the other shells se collected. I took them out of the bleach mixture and rinsed them really well…and yes they really do stink. I put them on a tray and put them in the sun. Can I salvage them? I noticed your starfish were very hard and kinda clinched when you put them in the dish. How did you get them hard. Look forward to your reply.

Try to let them dry out. Then soak them in rubbing alcohol.

Yes, try one first to see if it causes any color changes. Simply allow them to air dry. The alcohol evaporates quickly.

Once they are dry you can soak them in the alcohol.

This changed the color of my starfish! Found mine by the shore of a beach in PH! Immediately after covering it in the alcohol, he changed from blue to orange! I don’t mind, but why did it do this?

Perhaps it was alive when it was blue and dead when it turned orange.

@@HowToVideoChannel honestly, I don’t think so, it had been dry for over a year by the time I found this video. It had been hiding away in an airtight container since I found it on the beach because the smell was so bad haha

Hello I have a question so I have a I believe it is called a Red Bull starfish I tried to let it dry out this was before I have come across your page it definitely did stink but the starfish was alive does that matter before u dry it out

I’m not sure what you mean. If you have a dry smelly starfish, then you can follow the steps in the video to help remove the smell.

I’d allow it to dry out first. However, the process should be the same either way.

If the starfish is alive, put it back in the sea! Drying it out or killing it with alcohol is cruel. 😢
