AUTISTIC child gives advice!
thankyou for watching this video, and hopefully it will give you an idea of my life as an autistic girl, and how to prevent a meltdown, how to deal with a autism meltdown and meltdown in autistic children.
It might also give an insight to autism in children, sensory processing disorder, and mental health in children.
Go watch my last video on my autism diagnosis- • IS AN AUTISM DIAGNOSIS...
please follow my social media accounts where I will be asking different questions on what you would like to know.
Instagram- / hollie.mabbott
Facebook- / hollie.mabbottxx
little bit about me, I was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder/ Asperger's syndrome at 9 years old. I have kept my diagnosis a secret for the majority of my teenage years. I am 17 years old now and have decided to use KZfaq as a platform to help autistic people like myself parents of autistic children, as both me and my mum have struggled with the lack of help and resources available after the diagnosis.
I also wish to spread more female representation of people on the spectrum as there is a huge gap in the media which needs to be addressed, as well as the true reality's of being on the autism spectrum not just the stereotypical traits presented in the media.
my hope is to use this channel as a resource to help parents, but to also to share what it is really like living with autism as a autistic girl in the 21st century.
so if you want to know more about my life, relationships, friendships, what i get up to in my day to day life and extra information on autism, keep watching.
hope you enjoyyy.

Hi Holly, I want to say a very big THANK YOU. My daughter is 9 and undiagnosed. I am 100% sure it is autism but she is very clever at masking and her paediatrician is pretty much convinced its just naughty behaviour. I am now on the right track to getting a diagnosis thankfully. My daughters meltdowns are extreme and she always wants to attack her older brother (he also has diagnosed autism and is 11) and kill him, she gets very violent. Unfortunately I have to physically put myself between her and him to protect him. You have given me some hope that we may be able to de-escalate the situation before the meltdown and I will have to try and come up with something creative that she can destroy and try direct her to it away from her brother if a meltdown occurs. She always breaks down and cries uncontrollably and is very remorseful when its over saying she can't control it. I always believed her and comforted her afterwards but you have now confirmed this for me. It breaks my heart to see her like that and like you said it is like she is possessed with soooo much rage. Im glad you have such a wonderful Mum to help you.

Thankyou for sharing this, yes meltdowns are completely unintentional and out of our control. It is horrible and a really traumatic experience for us to go through, and I’m sure it’s upsetting for parents to have to watch. I hope you managed to get some advice from the video and it helped you in any way!

Another very helpful video and a frank insight into meltdowns, I wish I'd known that 2 years ago! We, as parents, pretty much diagnosed our child aged 14 when her behaviour was really worrying after starting high school. Nobody suggested ASD and PDA (and we saw a lot of professionals!!!) and we had no idea about it until we saw Libby Scott on TV. Thank you Hollie and keep the videos coming x

You're are really lucky individual, with my meltdows btw I'm 22 now, I don't really have warning signs until seconds before and there not much I can do at that point and I range having them 2-3 times a week....and I'm at the point idk what to do and I'm scared mostly I get aggressive but dont mean it when I'm having one it's not me and like you said it's like a switch. I hate it I just want them to stop. It affects me and my partner so much....but what makes it worse is after my parter stay mad for like half hour-an hour and honestly it makes things worse as well as I dont have anyone to comfort me after....I can call my parents tho when starting to get out of one that helps a lot but sometimes my dad would shout and that also makes things worse

It definitely wasn't stupid that you tried to get out of the car since it was where you had the melt down. It makes perfect sense since you had a near panic attack there (melt down). Quite the opposite, it makes total sense. Panic attacks is probably the most common thing that people can associate with.

Thank you so much for sharing as a mum to 3 boys all asd 2 adhd as well it helps so much to hear from your point of view my boys are a little young or struggle to understand let alone explain how they feel its enlightening and helps me know what might be going on inside their minds and reassuring that I'm.doing the right thing as like your mum I learnt trying to prevent them hurting themselves or others during a meltdown makes it a million times worse instead I set up a safe space sort of sensory cosy cushions in an area of our home and just let them get it out their system there with no pressure and then when they get to the sobbing stage and sort of relaxed if that makes sense I kind of see the change in their body like the tension has left then I approach and they are ready to be touched and comforted. Your mum sounds incredible she has done amazing job your a credit to her please keep doing your videos ot helps so much and gives others hope and positivity as well as understanding as you know there are good and bad days and us parents struggle as much as our children but at the end of the day all we want to do is help and support
