It's an old build. A few tips though for next time. I would probably mount a plate on the front of the box, with a gap between it and the front of the box. Use some stand off bolts. That way you provide shade to the box and allow airflow in the gap.

its all about airflow...............allow plenty of cool air in the bottom, and allow the hot air to convection flow up and out the enclosure. Insulation inside is actually making things worse, helping to hold heat inside the box, remove it. You could put a 'stand off' heat shield on the outside of the box, to catch the suns radiant heat and effectively give the box shade. just a sheet of stiff plastic or aluminium, some spacers and self tapping screws..............easy.

Just what i need, you’ve got every considerations needed. Great job man❤ when wifi is in this box, how is the signal doing? Does it drop a lot? I plan to use this in my farm, max range for 2.4ghz is 100 meters

Very informative. Do you have a link for the fans/vent covers? Also how is that poe switch mounted? looks like it's standing vertically on its own.

Correct it's standing on it's own, the router is mounted with Velcro. The vent covers I got on Amazon check description

goes down to below zero in my area with no issues, the internal heat in that box is enough to keep the EQ safe. This is why you need ventilation on the summer, the trapped heat in that box is significant.

It would behoove you to have your modem inside the house. Better still, to have the entire cabinet inside. You don't have grommets on the holes where the wires enter so bugs and spiders will get in there. That will clog your ventilation and fans, get webs into the exposed sockets. Or worse, some wildlife, or bees, wasps, hornets, yellow-jackets, etc will get in there and really ruin your day.

The reflective insulation needs to be on the OUTSIDE!!! (And with a small spacer from the plastic… try adding some more insulation)

It's working just fine, radiant head Wii poo penetrate the box and be directed out. Any head inside forced out through the vents as colder air fron the bottom holes forces it to rise.

No this one worked, and continues to work great. I never did add any additional EQ.

Way too humid in MS to have vented enclosure. Sure wish I could. And here, wasps and ants would overtake that box in one season with this openings on the bottom. 😢

Cool project. Does that thermal trigger reset to the last setting if power is toggled off/on? Or does it remember the last setting?

actually, the thermal reflector should be attached on the outside of the box, not inside. So it helps to reduce the heat from the sun/outside coming inside the box.

With the summer temperatures being so high, ambient temperature of my cable modem/router is 92 degrees. It is on a tabletop by itself. The router case temp is 94 degrees. Do I need to use a fan to cool it further or is the the normal temperature at which most routers can function? Does a modem/router combo run hotter than just a cable modem unit?

I want to put my eero router outside. I found a nice box on Amazon, but my concern is the signal. If you have your router inside the box, does it affect the signal at all?

Not really, what matters is how far your are from the router.

So, both fans are pulling hot air out? For airflow... one of those needs to pull air in.

bottom holes do that. Air air will flow in through bottom than fan push out hot air. Notice i drill holes in the bottom.

Just curious, why would you bring you modem and POE switch outside? the maximum distance for POE is 328 feet. I don't know your house foot print, but if you have a "normal" sized house, the only piece of gear I would have outside is a is a dedicated wireless access point like the Cisco WAP150 Wireless-AC / N Dual Radio Access Point with PoE it's $200. no housing required and they have way better coverage than an indoor home router. If your running cameras, for $80 you should get a P-LINK TL-SG1016D 16-Port POE Switch, so for $280 your all set. But like I said I don't know what you're trying to accomplish or your home's footprint.
