Great subject. The hardest thing to do is cost something you have put hours of time, knowledge and experience into. Especially if all your potential buyers do not know, understand and even sometimes care what that value is. You have obviously done your homework. I ask buyers what they think its worth, and if what they say is too low to my mind, I explain how its made and ask them what they think the value is now. It works sometimes. P.S I chuckled at the ant that appears on your glasses around time 3:49 onward.

I will pay a little more to buy from a person like Francis because he is a true craftsman and Honest. I just received my second cane from him.

Oh boy thank you for the heads up on blackthorn shillelagh places that sell blackthorn shillelaghs. Sadly the shillelaghs I bought weren't official, I'm kinda bummed out I got these for family members honoring our irish heritage but sadly the shillelaghs I bought aren't official. 🙄😔

I'm an amputee and use a cane and would like to know if a blackthorn stick would hold up well as a cane?

I literally dug up two blackthorn saplings this afternoon as I'm going to use the root balls as handles. It was difficult and I got scratched to hell plus they have to cure for over a year. Hopefully the price justifies the hassle!

I frequently make and give away walking sticks and knob kierries(the south african version of sheleilagh) I have never realised that there is money in the game.I use wild olive,and black and white karee all of wich is extremely hard and durable woods.Maybe I should give a shot at making some and then try and market them?🤔🤔🤔

Francis I'm not sure you will see or even reply to this message as this is a 2 y/o video but I was wondering what your thoughts are on someone making and selling Blackthorn under the name Shillelagh if the wood isn't sourced from Ireland. I live in Germany and make Blackthorn walking sticks from time to time but have recently been contacted by a person that has 1/4 hectare of Blackthorn as well as a few other common species of trees used to make walking sticks, canes, shepherd crooks and the likes. He is now in his late 70's and no longer has the hand straight to continue making them and hasn't been for the last 15 years. He also hasn't been able to keep up with the trees for the last 10 years. He doesn't have any children to leave his company to and as I have talked to him a few times while walking my dog and asked if I would be able to cut a few pieces of Blackthorn He said I was more then welcome to take as much as I wanted as long as I don't cut down the whole trees. He also said I could go through his seasoned sticks and take what I wanted as he can no longer make them and has no one to leave his business to. But I guess back to the original question. Would it be OK to call my walking sticks Shillelaghs or should I just call them Blackthorn walking sticks.

If you are painting your sticks no one can tell if it’s blackthorn or thawthorn. Never paint them!!
