“How do two brothers get into the nail care business?” This is the single most common question people ask us. There’s a long and rocky version but we’ll give you the short one. We have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to start her own business at the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did everything in our power to support her. In the end, this is a family business.
Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighter’s training. He is energy personified and has a true passion for developing the best professional nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we are a perfect team.
Today, more than 20 years later, Young Nails Inc., is a professional nail care manufacturing company exporting to over 40 countries worldwide and distributing domestically to over 3000 stores. We’re respected for our next-level product innovation and education. Our mission is to bring you the best quality products and we’ll show you how to use them with incredible results. It’s really that simple.
Welcome to the Young Nails family!

I’m only 14 and I do hard gel extensions with hand painted art on myself every couple of weeks. I’ve honestly never had a nail break or had any lifting!!! This was very encouraging to me for the future that just because one day I’m going to be a “Beginner” nail tech does not mean that I should be any less confident about charging what I’m worth!!!☺️❤️❤️❤️

As a beginner myself, when people ask me how much, I'm thinking "ok im just starting out and im not the BEST tech yet, but I'm not bad either".. So in my mind I thought starting low would bring in clientele, but what kind of clientele would that bring me? I'm liking the promos idea way better. Or asking for models to get my work out there, which is like what I did for school but now with my prices. I'm going to give this a shot! Great pointers!

This was a PHENOMENAL video!! I am in that VERY SPOT! I just finished school, sonI am a beginner by many accounts. I do good work and my timing is getting better and better, but I have no client base as of yet, and i want to gain exposure so that I can start building one. I don’t want to underprice my work because then I will not draw the higher-end type of clientele that I want to target, and it will be harder to bring my prices up to where I believe they belong, basically boxing myself in. I am DEFINITELY going to get a few friends and family to be my models and get my work out there.I will also be launching my own KZfaq next month, in conjunction with my Instagram account, and a Facebook account, separate from my current personal account, as well. Thank you such much for the suggestions. They are very much appreciated! 💅🏻💗💗💗

Habib and Tracey - I drive an hour to my salon each day and I listen to The Biz Talk both ways! I absolutely love it!! Thank you for all the topics and the banter that you two share. It's awesome. I have a salon in Concord NH (Capital City) and I'm right on the new Main Street at a great intersection. I have raised my prices to relocate (because I wasn't charging for art at my last location). The Biz Talk has taught me how to be more confident in knowing that even though within a mile of me there is a sub-standard salon offering a full set for $25, my clients get the experience and expertise and education when they come and see me. Keep up the great work!! Thanks so much!! xoxo Erin Hallgren of Pure Ten Nail Spa, NH

Yes to all of this! Habib, can i just say that i love how your passion for the business transcribes so well, and Tracey always putting her foot down about prices so clients can understand your worth! I've just started doing paid advertising across social media and in the local paper (the local paper has a big reach in my town) for a monthly promo. This month is free glitter art, next month i'll have a gel manicure special. My set prices do not change, but the promo's are getting people in my chair or at least on their radar. Promo's is the way to go. Cheap prices attract cheap clients. Remember that! Lets continue to lift this industry up! ✊🏼

where I am 25$ would hardly cover the product price. Not happening. 50$ is a low price for a set here Tracey is right on the higher price will signal better quality. Would I go to a low price salon? Sure, for a quick repair, not for a full set.

@@youngnailsinc That normal here in Indiana NSS even under $20. When I first started doing nails in the late 80's $45 was the price for a full set.

Over here in Perth, Australia, you can get a full set of SNS for $25 as a student or pensioner, or $35-50 for full price including paint at the end. Most salons are run by Vietnamese people with up to 12 workers at a time so they can each get a set done in about an hour. It really is a "get 'em in and get 'em out" mentality. It would be hard to price over that and remain competitive.

I would be really interested to hear your and Tracy's takes on pricing in and around middle to lower income areas! Coming from a rough situation and practically nothing, this will be my demographic for a while, and I'd love to know how the two of you would go about pricing for that
@youngnailsinc
@youngnailsinc 4 жыл бұрын
That is a subject we love to discuss! Location can mildly play a factor but even in low income areas you still don't need to lower your prices to cater to the demographic. Grocery stores don't change prices, gas isn't cheaper in low income areas. Your prices are your prices, period. No need to budget for your clients, nails are a luxury not necessity

When I first started doing nails I offered referral cards. My client would take 5 to 10 cards with them, I would write their name at the top and they would hand them out to their friends. Anytime one of those cards came back to me the new client would get $5 off and so would my client for referring them. So by the time my client had $25-$50 off I have 5 to 10 new clients. And that new client could also take cards and hand them out. It honestly kick started my career and as part of the reason I am so booked today.
@Emmaaubryn
@Emmaaubryn 2 жыл бұрын
You could also offer gift cards to your models. Instead of offering them a free service, you offer them a “gift card“ for the amount of their service. That way they are very aware of what the service costs if they were to continue forward with you. And you aren’t devaluing yourself by giving away a free service, they’re getting a gift card for their time that covers the cost of their service. It ends up being the same thing for you, but subconsciously it’s planting the seed of them paying your prices going forward.

I've mostly done friends, family & clients of the stylists in the salon where I work part time. I've priced middle of the road based on competition within 20 miles of myself. What are your thoughts on raising prices by maybe $5 in the next 6 months to year ? Once I get a better clientele & better times on my full sets.

Tracey you look gorgeous in a dress! You should wear them more😌 great video!!! I would like to hear your opinions about when you are doing good with clients, but wasting money on things/products and nail art that are not needed instead of making a profit untill you can afford those extra things🌼 that was a struggle for me to discipline myself to not over spend and budget for the necessities so that I could start making profit for the first year since I got Qualified. I see a lot of nail tech's struggling to make a profit or income because of spending money where it's not needed after getting qualified. Thanx for all your awesome content and business advice. 💞💞💞

I'm starting my business over the summer. And I'm doing $50 sets, I'm not charging for extra colors, and just making glitter a flat rate to start. After 6 months I'm charging regular prices. $30 fills.

. Initially I was providing nail models a free service but I saw that people were taking advantage. As opposed to allowing me to do a creative set, they had restrictions on color length, style etc. so I polled my IG following. I asked if I offer a $65 to 90 set for models should I be charging a reduced price? and my followers said they were ok with paying $25 to 35.

I recently got certified in Gel and Acrylic nails. I think I do a pretty good job. My only concern is my timing. I take anywhere from 2.5 hours to 3 hours for a new set. Because I take so long I'm charging $30 canadian until I get faster. Just wondering if I'm charging the client appropriately?

hi i know im late to this post but, for me personally i was self taught and trained as well but for me time was and still is a major factor. my work i just as good as the rest. however because i never really did much nails due to me not having a proper set up i hadnt enough sets under my belt to improve on my timing. also i struggled with pricing because i didnt want to be too expensive that no one would come and i didnt want to go cheap as no to cover cost or to make it seem as thou my work was cheap...so because of my low client list not because of my work but because i never marketed my work. where i live have sooooo many techs i usually got discouraged because i told myself how would i be seen among sooo many techs. my work is really good, but i'm still not reaching people.

How do you deal with raising your prices and not losing clientele ?

I would say to expect the possibility of losing a couple of clients but if you are communicating clearly and ahead of time the clients you keep will appreciate your work.
@youngnailsinc

if you do loose 1 client (highly unlikely) you have now opened up a spot for a new client willing to pay your prices, or you have gave yourself time to get home earlier while still making the same amount from your other clients price increase

Thank you for this video, great advice!! I live in a rural area not much industry and I Love doing gel nails. I found you on the internet and have learned so much from you and your products are amazing!! BUT!!! I am in that category of under pricing myself.. I have owned my hair salon for 43 yrs and now its time I have the sit down job! I charge $45 for a set and $35 for a fill. I feel that the fill is just as important than the set, also I added glitter this time and she asked is it more and of course it's Christmas so I threw ill it in just so she can spread the word. Do you think that's fair on pricing? I have competition others that are 25 miles away that they charge $45 so that what I 'm going by. I sure could use your advice on this. Thank you for your time

Sounds fine for now then as soon as you start getting busier up your prices. Even now be sure to charge for additives like art or glitter that's really where techs sell ourselves short we think oh it's only $5 but that $5 adds up fast

Hi Young Nails! If you're charging a lower price as a beginner technician say, $25.00 for a full set like you stated. Would it be recommended that you purchase cheaper products until you can up your prices for a higher priced and more likely, a better quality product?
@youngnailsinc
@youngnailsinc 2 жыл бұрын
Even as a beginner, we recommend using quality products rather than going a cheaper route. It is better to raise your prices and use good quality products. You will get better results and your clients will be more willing to pay higher prices for good quality.
@erin8000uk
@erin8000uk 5 жыл бұрын
I think they should give value but not work too cheap people do want that but it's best to start at 35 dollars then as you have more experience keep it steady and put the price up a little but not too far up as there is competition

I know people who charging half the average price here in my hometown. I don't know if they have enough customers to cover their expenses, but with the prices I hear they have i don't think so. It goes without saying that at times we all make offers to attract customers, but I don't think that falling prices will bring more customers.

I do my own nails when i just want nails or a set or experiment with designs etc but when i go to a salon i aint gonna lie i pay $60 to $70 just for my hands BUT thats because i can do my basic nails but when i go to a salon i always look for a more dramatic look that i cant do yet, so to me its well worth it considering i only go maybe 2 a year lol

What blows my mind is that I have seen video's of some people doing nails and charging big bucks....but I look at their work and think to myself....hell no....sacrificing time for quality???? No way! You better be damn good if I'm gonna pay that kind of money, and you can be sure that I will inspect the work......just saying.....I think that's why it is so important to develop a personal relationship with your client so that you know what they want, and by communicating with them from the start you are able to provide them exactly what they are asking for. That's what brings a client back......
