My husband used to work in a electric motor and transformer repair shop. Tearing down stuff they almost always used air chisels. They had a gas furnace with a blower on it to burn the paper and coatings off the transformer coils. If you have a part that is full of screws or light bolts zip them off with and air chisel. Easy, easy fast.

One thing you could try to help eliminate the excess material from your shredded copper is to build a pyrolizer- much safer than straight combustion (the volatile organic compounds are real nasty, don't want to breathe that in or put it in the air) leave copper and basically charred bits that will easily break break down in a mill, separate the copper from the excess material. Some electronics scrappers do that and sleuce the material, though they're usually looking for microscopic gold bonding wires etc. Also, as far as what you do with it, people buy up bars of copper for their own metal casting projects. Luckily, there's a bunch of KZfaq channels out there that are dedicated to pretty much everything in this comment 😅
@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info, I will be looking in to a Pyrolizer.
@Tacosgalore24
@Tacosgalore24 3 жыл бұрын
@@ProjectShopFl actually, come to think of it, if that's rubber, then pyrolisis would likely create sulfur dioxide which is super toxic stuff. Anyway, the same process can be used to turn virtually any kind of waste plastic into diesel fuel as well. Not the smallest of up front costs to build a pyrolisis rig for that purpose but waste plastic is certainly very easy to come by.
@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl 3 жыл бұрын
@@Tacosgalore24 Dude, I've been wanting to build one of these for a while. I did not know what it was called. lol I'm in to making my own fuel and energy. I make black diesel out of waste motor oil and gas. " w85" 85% waste oil 15% gas or diesel. Tranny fluid works better than motor oil. I also wanted to make a down draft gasifier to run a generator.
@Tacosgalore24
@Tacosgalore24 3 жыл бұрын
@@ProjectShopFl I'm not familiar with down draft gasifiers personally. To my understanding, a pyrolyzer is kinda like a distilling unit, but with an extra step involved of burning off gasses from heating, externally. That said, you theoretically should be able to use the same device to purify old fuels, oils in into usable fuel, even making gasoline from diesel. I'll find you a link on a design I just saw
@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl 3 жыл бұрын
@@Tacosgalore24 Ok thanks. A gasifier burns wood in a low oxygen environment then you condense the smoke and can be burned as fuel in a regular gas engine. I use to rebuild pallets so I had a ton of waste wood I wanted to run the air compressors on.

carabiner tip is great! I'm leery of those container weighs at the scrap yards, as far as gross weight and net, do you weigh your stuff before you take it, or trust them? Will your people deal with local scrappers?
@ProjectShopFl

I weigh the copper mainly, but I trust my buyer and routinely see them weigh the containers. But When I first started I went all the yards with 40 lbs of copper in 5 gal buckets weighed on 3 different scales and I found the honest ones. I've been dealing with them exclusively for 10 years. They don't buy from the public, But It don't hurt to ask. thanks for watching.

Just a question. If the guy you buy from in Miami is right close to the place you sell your scrap why do you not stop there first when you have a half load like you did in this video and then drop all the cast off since your seller has already processed it rather then haul it back to your place of operation? It would seem to be more efficient then having to handle it multiple times plus have it take up space until your next run.
@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl 2 жыл бұрын
90% of what I buy has to be processed. Also the place that I sell to doesn’t receive after 3 o’clock. Believe me I’m in the area and if possible just offloaded real quick I would definitely do that thanks for the suggestion and thanks for the watch
