Hello! I’m John Russell.
Let’s continue our exploration of common words, phrases, and questions in American English.
In recent lessons, we explored a polite way to get another person’s attention: excuse me.
We also learned about asking about locations with the structure “where is...?”
And finally, we have learned how to show our appreciation: thank you.
Now we need to work on putting together what we have learned. We need to master these important phrases and questions to sound natural and confident.
The general order is this: “excuse me” is then followed by the question “where is....?”
After hearing the response, we say “thank you.”
Repeat after me slowly:
Excuse me. Where is the train station?
Thank you.
Excuse me. Where is the train station?
Thank you.
Now I would like you to record yourself saying what we just practiced. You can pause the video and record yourself with a phone or computer. Then compare your recording to me. Make note of any differences you hear. Ask yourself if there are consonant or vowel sounds that are different. Ask yourself if you are linking your words like I do.
I will do one last example at more of a natural speed for me.
Excuse me. Where is the train station?
Thank you.
That's all for today! Keep up the good work!
