I kinda envy English and Spanish native speakers because they can use their own language among hundreds of millions of other people on half of the world and use tons of resources for learning. Us others who speak languages that only a few millions of people speak its something else. Even learning lets say Spanish I have to use sources in English which is not my native language either. Like this video. So English and Spanish speakers dont complain and learn :)

These tips are wonderful. In addition to these I have spent a fair amount of time viewing Spanish speakers and the use of their lips when speaking and I find their use is much more dramatic/exagerated than a typical english native speaker. This has helped greatly in trying to improve my pronunciation.

I think it's both. Our education in America is definitely sub-par compared to other countries, and American English usually use soft t's (which ends up sounding like d's), as opposed to British English where there are more precise pronunciations with harder t's.

Pronunciation of the Spanish “r” or “r” is not difficult but sometimes I may forget to pronounce it properly. For me there is another sound in Spanish that gives me more problems and that is the pronunciation of the letter “v”. It should never ever sound like English “v” yet I hear that sound from native speakers a lot. Sometimes I forget or don’t think about it so I am sometimes a little unsure of myself. One of my first Spanish teachers in junior college told about a student she had had named “Vicente” who insisted that his named should be spelled “Bicente”.

Well, after some years of exercise I can vibrate the tip of my tongue... In the back, in the front, accompanied with a high-pitched scream in the throat is the newest trick! (That sounds like a sicko bird.) But, I still can't do it inside a word. It's as if I would try to whistle during spraking. Just impossible. You can speak, stop, whistle, stop, continue speaking. It's the same with my "rr-thrills".

How come I can do it with other words like "rico" "carro" and "rato", but not with "risa"? The only way I can make the "rr" sound with "risa" is if I make it sound like I'm saying "grisa"???
@paulisimafromspringspanish1762
@paulisimafromspringspanish1762 3 жыл бұрын
I believe this might be because risa starts with the RR sound and that's harder to achieve, when the RR is beitween is like having pronunciation clutches hehe )This is how I imagine it) Try whispering a brief vowel sound like "a" before the word "risa... For example you could say "a-risa" and use the trick of doubling the sof R sound... you'd say something like "ar-ri-sa" and slowly move away from needing to add a vowel sound as a clutch

I can relate to this. If you visit a Spanish speaking country or befriend somebody whose English level is comparable to your Spanish level, than this fear will probably vanish. Sometimes people who were raised bilingually can be impatient with new learners because they may not have the experience of learning a language as an adult.
