It's pretty quick and painless, but here's a little demonstration to take the worry out of things on treating the leather on your new Brooks saddle for the first time. Thanks for watching!

Very comfortable. Mine is starting to break in at about 300kms. First Brooks saddle and extremely happy with the comfort. On my E-bike and it adds a touch of sophistication.

Good demonstration. I have a B17 on my Kona Sutra and I use flat pedals. I cant tell you how liberating it is to not have to wear special padded shorts and special cycling shoes. I always keep a plastic bag in my handlebar bag to cover the saddle with should things turn a bit too nasty.

Thanks, I ordered a Brooks a few days ago and the largest tin of conditioner Brooks sells. Can't wait to get the package so I can ride my bike. The current saddle is causing my bottom to hurt in just a 5 minute ride.

Thanks! My new Schindelhauer came with a Brooks saddle and I wasn't sure how to treat the saddle.

Hmm, please help me understand something I never understood. I thought brooks saddle starts to be comfortable ones it breaks in and there is a substantial nonvex shape of it. My brooks saddle is practically new, I have ridden some 300 km/ 200 miles and it is still as straight as it was the moment I bought it. Not that it is uncomfortable but it is far from ideal I was led to believe when making the decision to buy it. I have not yet waxed it - it still looks brand new - and I weigh approx 100 kilo. What am I doing wrong?

You're doing nothing wrong. Breaking in the saddle is having the leather conform to your pressure points, thus spreading your weight out more evenly, giving a more comfortable ride. Very little change in appearance should happen. Applying a leather conditioner lubricates the leather fibers, keeping them flexible and giving some water repellency.

How well and how quickly your saddle breaks in depends on a few things, the particular model of the saddle, and the leather. Some saddles, like the Brooks Professional, are a bit smaller than a saddle like the B17. The Professional also has thicker leather, which takes longer to break in. I have used different Brooks models like the Professional, Swift, Select, and B17, and find the B17 the quickest to break in, and the most comfortable. You can speed up the break in process by using neatsfoot oil, or water, this will soften the leather, and allow it to mold itself more quickly.

They should make it in a spray. A lot easier for the bottom.

Definitely would be easier.

Just wish Brooks were not so stingy on the Proofide pack size. Use anything larger than a tiny absorbent cloth and most of the Proofide in that ridiculously small sachet stays in the cloth - there is barely enough for the saddle. The 50 ml tin has a terrible pack:product ratio. Brooks come close to fleecing customers on the cost of their leather care product.

You are overdoing the Proofide. Use your fingers to apply the Proofide as recommended by Brooks. You don't need a cloth or paper. A tin will last for many years.

Good tips@@Tricyklistbut I’m in the hot tropics and even with fingers the tiny sachet isn’t enough.
