Yes. I had an empty plant saucer that had filled up with rain and I had just trimmed a couple of spider babies off the mother plant. I didn't have soil to plant them at the time, so I just set them in the saucer. Man, within two days those things were growing roots like crazy. So this is how I do all my spider plant propagating now. Great vids! I always love your experiments. Thank you and I hope wife and baby are doing well. 😊🌱🌿

On the gulf coast we can put these in a reasonably sheltered spot outside and never worry about them again. My nearly 80 year old Mother plants them by grabbing ahold of something, kicking backwards with her heel to make a small depression, dropping them into the hole and pushing the soil back over with her toes. I'm not sure these plants know the meaning of "transplant shock" - the only ones I've ever seen die were ones cats dug up and chewed to pieces. I keep some(both green and variegated) in a pot with a small group of bonsai nandina along with 3 types of liriope as it gives an easy jungle look , and I've long since run out of friends that willingly take spiderlets, so now I guerrilla garden them into neighbor's yards lol.

You should try rooting in just water but with a see through container and with a dark one. I've heard a non see through container is better because roots prefer to grow in the dark and not get sunlight.

This is super helpful, thank you! I got a pretty small sized spidey from IKEA last year and mostly didn't bother her. I learned they liked to be root bound, so I just let her be. One year later, there's SO many babies/spiderettes!! How excited I was! I want to try water propagating (since the largest baby just fell off...well...after my cat kept pawing at it lol, but its roots are all intact and strong). Does the type of water mater? I usually use tap water for everything (I'm in Toronto, Canada) and never have issues, but I'm definitely curious. Thanks!! :)

Hey how tall are your lemon trees so far? I remembered your last year video over starting them just around the same time as I did and I have two that are 3 feet tall. They were accidentally planted together and grew up looking like one plant, but after repotting this May, found out it was two separate trees. I love how fuller it makes the pot seem.

Also, They can take filtered sunlight, no problem. If you have trees in your yard and get dappled sunlight, the spider plants will be happy as a clam. My neighbor gets a few hours of direct sunlight on her porch, and her spider plants (from my mother plant) do well. Beware low light places for your spider plant because the soil takes longer to dry out versus bright indirect sunlight. And wet soil for too long leads to root rot.

Spider plants are the ultimate life form. Like I could point out that pothos is a poor test subject for propagation experiments due to a number of reasons, the other plan I could think of that grows that fast would be this one, which is even worse because it's hard to fail at propagating them, and once you have a rooted plant, it's even harder to kill. Literally the only thing that seems to really stress a spider plant is really low light, like in a windowless bathroom with the door open.

@@TechplantChannel when the small shoots haven't yet formed the root bulbs, just put them in water for 24 or 48 hours (the contact with water will activate root cells formation) and then immediately put them in the soil, and the substrate must always be moist for at least the first 2 or 3 weeks.

You do NOT want to keep the soil damp! Slider plants flourish with benign neglect. Water it about once every 3 weeks. The soil needs to be dried out in between watering. My mom always had spider plants, and she forgot to water them often, and they did great. The reason they can go a month in between watering is because of the tuberous roots that hold moisture and nutrients in the roots. Baby spider plants need to sit in water a while to develop the root system so they can go longer in between watering once potted.
