I can confirm this works. I actually push it all the way in towards the contacts, then push down on the spring and finally pull it just a little bit towards me and angle it to the left. It’s much easier to use the ridges on the notch to pull it, and nudge it by pushing on the corner at the front edge, and you don’t risk peeling off the label from the top edge of the cartridge.

I've tried this trick with my Super Mario Bros 1 cartridge and it works! The title screen can be kind of glitchy though. When that happens, all I do is wiggle the cartridge a little in the NES, then either turn the console off and on or press reset on the console and it solves the problem. Thanks man.

Yep, if you have some glitchyness all you need to do is ever so slightly move the cartridge and reset and it will most likely work.

Alcohol is fine, just make sure to use 91%, no stronger no weaker. It should be weak enough not to damage anything, but strong enough to not leave residue when you're done. IIRC, that's what was in the official cleaning kits.

Ah thanks for confirming my suspicions. I probably insert them way to deep into the NES. also the "holding down" mechanism seems to be broken on my system. High time to open the sucker up.
@SmallSpoonBrigade2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you found, but for those following at home, the mechanism is a bit fickle. It could be broken, but it could be that the 72pin connector isn't seated quite right and that it's having some weird impact with the case. I've got one that's misbehaving a bit like that since I took it apart to see what processor it has. The mechanism works perfectly fine with the top of the case off, but either won't remain down or won't come up with the top on. I'm sure that if I fiddle around a little bit with the connector, that it'll go back to working properly.

You can't push a game in too far. If you constantly play with a game all the way in, guess where the corrosion develops on the cart's pins? By sliding the cart out, you are just sliding the contact points slightly to where it's not corroded. Clean your pins and connector free of corrosion and they should play fine. Assuming the 72-pin connector isn't suffering from bent pins.

My duck hunt/mario brothers doesent display just black screen Did i just get a badly modded nes? Are they fixable? I was gonna see if a modding service would either fix it or re-mod it? Any thoughts?
@ForbiddenPhysics3 жыл бұрын
I don't know much about mods, the NES from the video is my only one and it's all original. Do other games work? If it's only duck hunt/Mario that doesn't it sounds more like a bad cartridge. My guess is that it's fixable, but again don't have much advice there sadly.

@ForbiddenPhysics3 жыл бұрын
That will more or less give you the same result, but the issue with pushing it all the way back is that it weakens the connector. It's best to only push the cartridge in as far as it needs to be.
@chrisbruggers80763 жыл бұрын
@@ForbiddenPhysics You make a good point. I'll try that. The main thing is never blow into the carts or the system and if it doesn't immediately work you want to try backing it out and moving side to side a bit.

Thumbs up for the great video brother! Always love great classic NES Videos! Hell to the Yes! I do have one piece of advice after trial and error over the past 15 years and experience...ahem. If you don't mind without sounding like an asshole or crazy NES Fanboy which I am...ahem.. first clean the 72 pin first and pin the pins back and test. next...pull the 4th pin on the chip to disable the lockout chip (videos on that to learn, next), if the cleaning does not help and there is no video or audio then desaulder the capacitors on the corner chip board which you can find online or about $10 and resaulder the 3 capacitors one big one and 2 little ones and then BAM!!!! you should be good. It's not that hard or scary but can be intimidatading. But I did it and it worked. NES repair isn't that scary.....it's just like a old 60 Chevy engine that needs just some elbow grease, a wrench, and some brute force and some love and that's it. Nuff said. Big Balls would help as well or heavy Ovaries for the woman ...lol. Hell just fucking do it! It's just a fucking a Nintendo for @$%# Sake..lol If you can't fix it just sent it to me and I'll fix it for $500.00 plus Cobra Kai tax of $35 and my $15 fee. and if you apply and ask me now I'll throw in a free sticker for $10 bucks free of charge before August 25, 2021 Unless you suscribe.
