It's been 3 years since I last changed my fluid so I'm here for a refresher. Thanks! My manual on my 2015 A3 says 32 Nm on the drain and that both fill and drain plugs should be replaced. Pretty scary the dealer has no seals! Reminds me of Ford, when I went to the dealer for the then exotic transmission fluid for a scheduled change, the lady at the counter said they have none, have never ordered it nor had it in stock.

I was actually able to revive a dead pump by tearing it down and cleaning all the debris out. There was about 2/3rds as much debris inside the pump as caught on the screen. Going forward I will be disassembling the pump every time I do a haldex service. The internals are pretty simple, not many components and it only takes an extra 10 minutes. Just have to remove that last torx bolt on the face that the screen sits on. Be careful because there are some springs inside.

Glad you covered the pump motor reset in VCDS! That was the magic sauce for my S3 Haldex service. Turns out my pump hadn't been primed after the previous Haldex service (before I bought the car) so I was running 2WD for a few years without realizing it.
@garyallman3039
@garyallman3039 2 жыл бұрын
My understanding (maybe wrong) is that this is not a required step -- you can just run the car for 30 seconds, then top it off. If you have a lot of debris clogging the screen, or the pump is replaced, it is good for the pump to be reset to the optimal pump current (would have been higher with blocked screen). Or maybe I don't really know.
@BS.Garage
@BS.Garage 2 жыл бұрын
@@garyallman3039 That could be the way its supposed to work, but mine went for a long, long time without the pump working. I bought the car with 37k miles, so the Haldex service was done just prior to my obtaining it. I didn't realize my AWD was not functioning until I got stuck on an icy driveway about 2 years later! When I did the next Haldex service at 65k miles the screen and fluid were both very clean.

Thanks for this, I always do my own work BUT decided I'd drop it off at the dealership to have the Haldex and both F&R diff fluids changed just to have a paper trail if I sell the car in a year or two. They did the F&R diff and I said I didn't see mention of the Haldex service and they said there's nothing on the recommended service schedule because they're the same thing lol. I didn't bother to press them and I'll just change it next weekend myself lol.

Nice and clear video on Haldex Maintenance Charles! The Pump basic settings is not to prime the pump but to calibrate the pump. Without correct calibration the generated pressure scheme is not correct and you will have wrong pressures. Always do the calibration when cleaning or replacing the pump.

Hi Charles, quick question for you-how the heck do you get the pump cable clip to release?? I just spent 2 hours under my 2016 Skoda Yeti-it was on a 4 post lift-and just couldn’t get the cable to separate, and neither could any of my buddies in the workshop either. The car has done 75,000 miles so I thought it would be a bit stiff-but no way could we get it to release…….I know it has a catch on the connection but couldn’t get that to move either. In the end I just refilled the oil and checked that the pump was running and will try again in the new year.

@HumbleMechanic I dont have any option in my AWD module to run the pump, all i have is some function for the haldex clutch and it seems like a Sequential test, but it does never let me continue to the "next" step it just stops after one press and the pump never runs. The haldex clutch works fine though and i have all wheel drive when i test drive the car. I have a registered official VCDS Hex-2. The car is an Audi S3 8p 2009 so its the facelift with Gen 4 Haldex. Is my control unit or pump busted, or am i missing something? :(

Hi our clutch pump is stuck solid, we haven’t taken the top fill plug out yet, we have drained out with the bottom sump screw but I put the bolt back in. Is it that I’ve pressurised the system stopping it come out by putting the screw back in too fast? Any ideas?

Thanks, Charles. Where do you source the PigMats? We used to have them at Cdn Tire stores here in Canada but no longer.

I have a 2016 Audi S3, when i try to floor it or launch it its 100% front wheel drive, even when i accelerate about 60% traction light blinks, is this the Haldex Fluid Pump failing? or do you know what could be the problem? please let me know asap because i need to service it and i don’t really trust the dealership much anymore especially where i live.
