HI, when you say metal outer chassis, you mean just the border, or any flat metal part of the underside of the car? Thanks.

Hello! Thanks for the question. We recommend attaching the magnetic case near to the edge of the vehicle as you can. If it is too far beneath the car, it may have difficulty getting a clear signal.
