I loved Nishio sensei perspective on the practical techniques, Saito sensei also focuses on atemi on most of the techniques, the two were jewels in the Aikido world

15 years ago, our Sensei moved from the more commonly taught Aikikai style, to the Nishio Budo style. The latter is just another world. I thank our Sensei everyday for this change. Thank you for this nice compilation of Nishio's Sensei explanation of Atemi. It summarises very well why Atemi is so important in Aikido. Such videos may help people who don't know about Aikido changing their opinion on Aikido. Well done.

Nishio sensei is great

Once shize, kokyu kami and ma ai are addressed the attemi of the irimi should naturally occur regardless of techniques as techniques are below this level of elemental practice. However, with respect, with kotegaeshi I would never turn my back on uke. Rather, revert to the origins of kotegaeshi, two locked katana and attack directly at uke cutting him to the floor and away from me. The assumption that uke cannot strike you is dangerous.
