Installed these on a riding mower kzfaq.infoUgkxetgfkJxfdT_B2vGYP-uNTLaBbim9OKTD . They were sharp out of the box, although I've never liked blade edges that were coated...not quite as sharp as I personally want. Using my belt sander, I removed the coating from the cutting edges and refined the edge enough to shave with them. So far, after three runs, these blades are holding up as expected. Even after hitting a few fallen 1/2 inch or so branches, the edges are still sharp as heck. No edge dings, no warping, etc. As far as installing them, the cutouts were of the proper size and shape to fit my aging Craftsman mower. Very satisfied.

I use a 6" bench grinder with a blade guide and has worked great for 10 years. I recently added a 4" flap disk grinder to the truck for field work.

After sharpening with my hand grinder.. I always take a hand file and do a clean run or two on the backside edge to knock off any burrs.

Once I started using the flap disks, I never went back to the grinding disks. It makes sharpening easier. Buy the balancing device, it only costs a couple of bucks, and works better than a nail.

Any reason not to spin the flapwheel in the direction of the cutting edge, or is it a preferential thing?
@robertblalock50092 жыл бұрын
Balance magna matic or nail..balanced is balanced as far as I know. I use a nail myself . drilled a hole in side of table and put nail in for use and take out not in use. that way I don't rip my skin or pants. Use what you like. Thanks for your video... Use older blade amateur as I did to get the feel and motion of a hand grinder w flap wheel.

You grind from the high side to the point. The way you are doing it the grinder can catch the edge and jurk the hand grinder away from your hands hurt you or wreck your disc wheel or grinder. In other words the sparkes would be going up not down.

Great on the PPE. Wish you'd use a shield on that grinder, too.

Good video. I'm sure there are many variables but how often should you sharpen the blades? Also, what grit are you using on your flap disk?
@garthqueen7 жыл бұрын
60g or 80g is good

Flap discs wear out too soon and cost way too much. Using a grinding stone works better provided you pay attention to proper technique.

jake trowbridge throw that shit in the trash. Been running Exmark Z mowers and walk behinds for years, and we never replace blades or bearings unless we hit something. Anybody with a partial brain can sharpen a blade with a flap disc. You're probably that guy who spends 3 days sharpening blades to mow 2 lawns. 😆
@leaf63075 жыл бұрын
Just from the start,your blade was reversed.Bottom of the blade never is shiny.
@thomasschwarting51082 жыл бұрын
I agree. The other thing is the cutting angle, I was told was to match the angle of the lift part. I cannot possibly do that freehand. I have a grinder specifically for mower blades. Fully adjustable. And yes the backside, no grinding. You want a completely flat side. Just enough to knock off burrs.
