How to PROPERLY thicken fonts in Inkscape | Inkscape for Cricut Crafters

This is the ONLY tutorial video you need to watch if you want to thicken fonts/text in Inkscape for use with your Cricut machine.
The method I will be sharing works every time and doesn’t involve resizing your words to get just the right added thickness. Enjoy!

THANK YOU! You seem to know exactly what you are talking about and your presentations are to the point. Plus, I didn't have to hear how you stubbed your toe this morning or some other mind-numbing drivel and no cutesy "This will get me the halfwit viewers" mindset. I am so very tired of watching tutorials for a few minutes only to find people who begin whispering to themselves because they haven't thought their presentation through and then speeding through it thinking it is some sort of competition. Hello! Thank you 😊 ah I’m afraid you can’t change the font after following the steps to thicken - as it is no longer text but an object. You would have to start again if you want a different font 😁

Hello! This didn't work for me and I have no idea why. When I command/cntrl the entire text goes huge and thick and then thick and small depending on which I select. Any tips?

Thanks for sharing. The only problem using outset ,even if you change the behaviour steps, after increasing the text thickness one or two clicks(command/right bracket) the outline of the text edges become distorted(growing tiny spikes on the edges ) and all the beautiful curved text lines become distorted with these tiny spikes and renders the image useless. Any solutions ?

Hello, what does it mean if it’s giving a message that one of the objects is not a path? This happens when I try the union step.

Hey! So there are two things to consider 1) is the object something you created in Inkscape? Some text or a shape? If it is a picture you have imported the process to change it to a path is different to that shown in this video 2) if it is a shape or text drawn in Inkscape did you select it first and then do ‘Path > Object to Path’? That should convert it to a Path. Don’t forget for text you need to next unGroup (‘Object > UnGroup’) before you do ‘Path > Union’ Let me know if you can get it to work! 😊

Ah that makes sense then! So there are two ways to convert them to a path. 1) draw over it using the Bezier pen. This is more involved and requires some Knowledge/ experience of using Inkscape 2) the trace bitmap function will automatically convert into a path but results can be less precise/messy. I don’t currently have tutorials on my channel but if you search for either of these on KZfaq you’ll find tips!

Hi thank you for your video. Just a little request. The background music is way too loud. I'm on the spectrum. Listening to speech over music makes it really difficult to follow the information. A little bit of music goes a long way and is never useful (for me) when it is playing while the person is teaching. I've also heard people who are hard of hearing, speak the language as a second language, and/or just don't care for it never miss the background noise. Thanks again for the info.
