How to protect your sprinkler system during a cold snap

Here in Colorado it's not uncommon for us to have cold snaps in early fall. What's a cold snap? It's when we get one day of freezing temperatures and then the temps go back up the next day. When this happens you want to drain your sprinkler backflow so that it doesn't freeze but then easily turn it back on a few days later to continue your fall watering schedule. In this video John teaches us how to do just that!

Thanks John! When opening the valves to 45 degrees, they’re to be left open at 45 degrees until the cold snap passes correct?

What do you do if there's no valve off the basement shutoff line?!

Danielle Culler The shut off could be in the garage or outside in the ground. Some areas of Castle Rock have a separate waterline for the irrigation system which comes from the street.

@@CastleRockSprinklerService We think we figured it out. We located where it came in and there was no drain valve there, but the spigot cam into the same main feed from the water line. There were valves there, so we opened them up and got a few cups of water out. Plus we wrapped the outside pipes with towels and trash bags and said a little prayer! Thank you too much for replying tonight, that means a lot!!! I plan on calling soon to see about making a winterization appointment. God bless!
