I have been a landscape designer for many years, and must say your pruning techniques are absolutely outstanding! One of the nicest pruning jobs I have seen in a long time, bravo Mr. Wilson. You have a very keen eye as to where to make the cuts, and your finished product, looks spectacular. I wish more landscape contractors had your amazing skills. I learned all these techniques years ago, when I had the good fortune to do someone internship work with several landscaping companies in the Netherlands. I have perfected those skills and have been delighting friends and customers ever since. Pruning is an art form, and you have clearly mastered it on multiple levels. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skill set with all of us!

At 14:50, you nicely mention doing an undercut first, so that the bark doesn’t peel off from the weight of the branch falling when the cut is made. My son is an arborist, this is a crucial step that a lot of homeowners don’t know about. He priced a pruning job and the homeowner declined and did it himself, every tree had several wounds from peeling bark, they looked horrible. You’re such a good orator, you would have made an excellent school teacher! Great video!

@OverdevestNurseries
@OverdevestNurseries 11 ай бұрын
If it is a deciduous one (one that drops its leaves in autumn like here in David's video) the best time is after it finishes flowering in late spring. If you care to tune in again around the 3 minute mark you will hear David explain more about this timing and why its important. On the other hand if your plant is one of the evergreen sorts, then you can do it over a longer time period - in fact from spring through summer and even in winter. The only time to avoid would be late summer early fall, because there's a chance you might stimulate new growth that might be vulnerable to cold weather going into winter. Hope this helps. Have you subscribed to our channel? If you haven't, you might like to think about subscribing, because once you are subscribed, each time we post a new video (which we are doing all the time), it will turn up automatically in your feed. When and how do I fertilize my Jane Magnolia? My flowers come but they do not open up and eventually dry up and drop off. This is the second year this has happened.
@OverdevestNurseries
@OverdevestNurseries 9 ай бұрын
A well-balanced slow release fertilizer can be applied in early spring. To preserve our independence we do not specify individual brands but there's several good formulations available that work well, and when you talk to the experts at your local garden center: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ they will be able to guide you further. Regarding the flowers not opening, we wonder if this is caused by frost damage and therefore we direct you to this video that David filmed several years ago for our sister brand Garden Splendor: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZrR8g89jp9mWZnk.htmlsi=Ab47boUXTsn_6kfX this will give you tips on how to protect your plant during these brief (but critical) periods. Finally, have you subscribed to our channel? If you haven't, you might like to think about subscribing, because once you are subscribed, each time we post a new video (which we are doing all the time), it will turn up automatically in your feed. And, as you find our videos helpful, it would be great if you could kindly share the links with your friends and click the "like" button too, because that helps other people find the information as well. Finally, now that the cooler weather of Fall arrives, it brings with it the BEST TIME of PLANTING and since our partnering garden centers: grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ are continuing to bring in stocks of gorgeous plants, if you live in our Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern region be sure to stop in and take a look…. Because that’s where you will discover all sorts of beautiful, tried and true and cutting edge, top performing selections.
