Hey everyone! just a short video on how I prune my beefsteak tomatoes in my raised beds for the best production. This can also be done in ground as well or in pots. Some may argue this technique, but we have practiced this technique for years on thousands of tomato plants, and it has always worked fantastic!

As someone who is just getting into large scale hydroponic growing it has been refreshing to find you all, you give out good solid info without all the fluff most people try to sell you. I have gone back and watched many of your videos and have gained more info in a few days then I have in months so thank you for that. I would also like to say I am so sorry for your loss, Wayne seemed like a good down to earth man. Thank you for all you and your family have done and shared with the rest of us.

Looks like a fun day to be at the wave pool! Or sailing on Lake Superior! Something I picked up recently is when you prune it keeps the mildew (tomato disease), off with the wind passing. It's like 5 gorgeous tomatoes or 15 junky ones.

Grew half my crops in 5 gallon buckets. Overall poor production compared to in ground not to mention exhausting work to keep watered. Never again. Just not enough room for roots which fill the container with mass of roots so nutrition starved

I trellised our sugar baby mellons last year using 2 tomato cages, with the top inverted above the bottom. I grew several plants in a 7 gallon fabric pot and we got close to a half dozen watermelons. My wife made fabric masks that I reused to support the melons because they would be too heavy for the vine to support. This year, I am using Bato clips on a polytwine around the garden fence. I used this technique last year on the Butternut Squash with grat success. BTW. Love your pruning techniques. I have religiously used your 12 leaf method on all my tomatos and the Butternut Squash to a lesser extent. I haven't had any disease pressure and have had great harvests. All within a confined area. Going verticle and keeping after the vegetation makes this possible. To borrow from my dad (who is a small farmer), the object is to do more with less.

Wow, that's a great idea with the cages, but I'm not exactly picturing what you mean about the top being inverted over the bottom. The masks would totally work! I'm going to try that! It makes my heart happy that our techniques help others to grow, even in small spaces. ❤️

The bottom cage is installed as intended. Then flip a second cage on top of the bottom cage and tie them together. I used fence wire as I have a spool. Zip ties work. It should look something like a lava lamp. Here is a text representation. / \ / \ -------- \ / \ / The masks will leave interesting marks on the watermelons that it made for interesing conversation. The color under the mask is significantly lighter than the exposed areas. It's kind of a "farmers tan" for watermelons.

I remember when you grew them in your greenhouse (Commercial) you left two stems as a main plant. What is more beneficial? Growing two stems or only one dedicated stem for each plant? Nice tomato haircut. Good job! No hippie tomatoes here... Regards. Fred.
@Growwiththelaplantes
@Growwiththelaplantes Жыл бұрын
Hi Fred, we did that only in the substrate slab hydroponic house. The reason we did that is because we didn't want to grow 2 plants in the same block to make two separate rows because the root system would have been too much for the block. However, with two branches growing off the same plant, we would end up with the plant splitting at the growth point. I hope this makes sense . Both will produce fine, but it's just the chance of the plant splitting with the two branch system

@@Growwiththelaplantes I consider the double stem a brilliant idea. I was highly impressed by your results . But finally, the harvest was double? (or at least, more than a normal single stem plant?) How was that finally? Thanks.
