Great video! I have several Natchez single trunk that are about 5 yrs old. Since they have gotten so tall i havent clipped the tops at all in a couple of years. Normally during first of March i would clip approx 6" off of the top. They are absolutely gorgeous!

I would like to transplant my new dwarf purple crepe myrtle from a semi sunny area to a full sunny area. Can i do this even after the first life of it this Spring? I want to be sure that last Summer's planting has taken hold.

Just planted 2 Natchez trees about 6-7ft tall last Halloween. I've never grown crepe myrtles before, so I'm scared to prune them at such a young age! I know in North Carolina everyone is pruning now (see a lot of "murdering" going on!). Its the beginning of February. My young trees have a TON of little spriggly growth, especially towards the inside of the trees. Do you recommend cutting this all out? If so, how far up do you go? Thanks😊

I have discovered one issue with pruning out most inward facing branches. That is, when the tree is blooming and after a good soaking rain, the branches are heavy. They droop outward, almost to the point of breaking or splitting the tree, because there is no counterweight of inner branches.

I liked the pruning tips for crepe myrtles, I couldn't watch the ones that didn''t spell crepe right, but I did learn from the others, though! 😊

Is it ok to put a potted crepe in the ground now in autumn. It looks like its suffering in the pot. Leaves are turning yellow and are dry and crispy. Can it be saved by taking it out of the pot?

Actually, it can be spelled Crepe Myrtle or Crape Myrtle. The traditional southern spelling is "Crepe Myrtle" (because the delicate flowers resemble crepe paper). However, across the US, it is more commonly found as "Crape Myrtle". ... In addition, the American Horticultural Society Encyclopedia uses the spelling, "Crape Myrtle".

You forgot a hat with your pruning gear. I have to comb out my hair ( what very little I have) then wash it after I have any dealings with my crepe myrtles,

Dynamite doesn't have beautiful bark, and never will. It's a dwarf variety, just a shrub. It will never look like the big crepe myrtle *trees* with the attractive shedding bark, so it's not a good subject for teaching crepe myrtle pruning. Dynamite, however, has beautiful red flowers!
