No, the purpose of upright branches is to give quality fruit only on them, all side branches should be removed because they create shade and clutter in this system of cherry growing.

Hi,I do not recommend that you use COLT to train UFO trees, arborization rootstocks are usually not effective in controlling shoot growth. I also don't recommend using Lapins, Regina, and Kordia to train UFO trees, because the branches of Kordia and Regina are too soft and difficult to handle. The high yield of Lapins results in a weak tree. I recommend the combination of Sweetheart and Gisela rootstocks. You can leave your email or WeChat, and I can send you some pictures.

@@SARGIS55 ‘’Weak Tree‘’ meaning is tree is not vigorous, but has a lot of flower buds, and the overall tree vigor is very weak. Most self-pollinating varieties are relatively weak.

@@sdguanlv It means when You put wild cherry on to Gisela, and then putting the variety to the wild cherry. THis is because many varieties are not compatible with Gisela rootstocks directly.
