I believe that every painting I create draws upon the toolbox of strategies I've filled over the years. With every painting session, techniques were refined and further tools for creating an interesting, impactful watercolor painting were discovered. And that toolbox has come in mighty handy over the years!
Today, when I paint, I rely on all the strategies that have been internalized, a sort of muscle memory for painting that doesn't take logical thought as much as intuitive guidance. The idea of creative flow that is drawn upon to inform the techniques and tools I have at my disposal.
All through #worldwatercolormonth I've been using the same reference photo, adding my knowledge of the scene to my store of creative inspiration, and today I'm carrying on with that pattern, painting the prompt of FRAGMENT as the practice of assembling the pieces of what I've done in the past, what I know how to do, and what I want to learn and do better - all of these things come together and that's what makes every painting unique!
My friends on KZfaq are participating in today's #worldwatercolormonth2023 painting prompt as well for the #worldwatercolormonthvideochallenge

I too expect the family to build on that internal conversation. You are certainly not on your own. Wow todays 🎨 is amazing, I haven’t decided what direction my fragment painting will take yet. Thank you for sharing your intuition & knowledge 👏

I do the conversations in my head thing. My husband will just look at me in bewilderment and say “what in the world are you talking about”? But my mom & my sister are able to pick up the conversation. It must be a familial thing. Loved the painting.

Awesome promt. A plain old stonewear pot I've had for years fell and broke. 😢Mom had given it to me the summer before she passed. I plan to use this prompt to memorialize this loved planter.

Fragments at first portray incompleteness. Then, more of them help the painting become a picture of something. We want it to look like something familiar. When it does, we are satisfied. It’s abstract for sure, but we always knew there was a reference.
