In this video, I tack up Ruby, a 16.3hh Sports Horse... to show you how to put a saddle on correctly. 👌🏽
Where to put the saddle: So many people put the saddle on too far forward, and this video looks at how to avoid that; plus what happens when you do it put on too far forward, with you some pointers to make sure you put it on correctly every single time.
What girth straps to use. And what girth straps you should NEVER use together. First? Third? Second? WHY?
Excuse the sound... it's a new mic and I need to get used to not having to shout at my phone...

This is a great descriptive video thank you! I am visually impaired and always needing to feel where my saddle is positioned rather then look. I have a Kent & masters dressage saddle and really feel the berth is too long as you say in your video if your on hole 7-8 both sides it could be too long, I will look back at your videos to find out which length is better for my horse, my saddle fitter is due out in March / April so still a little while before she comes out. Love your videos 🐎 xx

Don’t panic, hole 3 or 4 is for a GP saddle - not a dressage one :) your dressage one should be higher up the straps. :)

@@ADayInTheLifeOfASaddleFitter phew thank you! Yes should have remembered that! I am very OCD about making sure each side of the girth is tightened equally for both sides, my horse is very patient while I go from one side to the other feeling the holes to tighten and then going the other side to match the number of holes! Xx

Omg this explains why I put my daughters saddle (dreasage/show) on too far back, and my sons (jump) too far forwards. I am going to surprise the wife with some expert saddle placement. Thanks for this. X

This explains why my horse stumbles so often 🙁 I think I put it too far forward to compensate for the saddle being too long. Thank you for helping me realise that I need to get rid of that burden of a saddle!

YES! It could easily cause your horse to trip if you've been putting the saddle on too far forward - as you'll be sitting directly on the muscles that move their front legs... making it harder for them to lift them :) Hope you get it sorted out :) xxx

Jochen Schleese talks about finding the last rib by looking for the V in the coat hair direction and it’s directly up from that. Does that work too? It’s tricky sometimes to find the last rib on a fat horse.

Do you think sheepskin girth sleeves are any good (to help with sensitivity and sweatiness)? I cannot find any specifically for curved girth. Could I use a regular?

LeMieux do a nice curved one. They can be really good for sweatiness and sensitivity, as long as they're real sheepskin and are kept clean-ish :)

@@ADayInTheLifeOfASaddleFitter I think the LeMieux might be for dressage only, at least that's what the very short sizes suggest.
