white distilled vinegar or cleaning vinegar doesnt matter how much u add ive put 4 cups to a small load doesnt hurt it work clothes come out smelling great

I am going to start doing this. I have toddler. He's potty trained but ya I still wanna kill all the germs. Not crazy about sorting so I am just always gonna do this. Thanks for the info! :)

All these time Ive been using vinegar thinking its just to sanitize but never thought of it as being a softener too. I talked to a local owner of a used appliances store here and man did he school me on all those toxic fabric softener and soap.What makes our clothes soft is the wax on fabric softener which is also bad for our skin and it also leaves a nasty build up on the washer. Now Im using straight baking soda vinegar and yes a good laundry detergent like Tide H2O that dissolves in cold water fast. Not everybody has the luxury of having those fancy washer and dryer and soft water but with the mixture of 1 cup baking soda a cup of vinegar and a good laundry soap every clothes comes out clean and smells good without masking the smell and coating our clothes with toxic wax from softeners. Sam Sonic my underwear have a ton of detergent buildup and going to try to use vinegar in the wash and let it soak in just water and vinegar just let it soak for a while than start the wash again to rinse

Vinegar isn't a disinfectant like bleach is. I use vinegar for washing as well as for final rinse, especially for towels. Never use fabric softener on towels!! It gradually builds up a residue which makes the towels less absorbent. Vinegar keeps the towels fluffy, and when they come out of the dryer, THERE IS NO VINEGAR SMELL! Which is why, although I love vinegar in washing (even will throw in a cup occasionally while running the dishwasher), I can't use it for cleaning, although it does a good job.

I always put vinegar in my fabric softener dispenser on my washing machine so it automatically goes in . He has it on point

Vinegar is acidic Detergent is alkaline Combine it together in a wash they basically cancels each other. Better to soak in your clothes withn water in vinegar first if its dirty/yellowed white better overnight theb rinse it before throwing it on a wash or wash your clother first then add the vinegat on the rinse cycle preferably on the last rinse.

Hmmmnn... My "Go To," is Eucalyptus oil in the rinse. Smells lovely, anti-bacterial... But I do appreciate the idea of distilled vinegar. I use it as an organic spray against invading ants.

I have the same problem. FIrst they don't smell like it, but after a while (even when air dried) the smell of vinegar comes off. I washed the same clothes twice now without the vinegar and I'm afraid the smell will come back :(. Maybe I used too much vinegar.

@@coffeecat1030 I have fixed the problem, I start the wash and only add the detergent, then when the machine is about to enter the rinse stage I add the vinegar (not more than half a cup) in the softener compartment and my clothes come out smelling like absolutely nothing :). Hope this can help you.

You clearly put too much vinegar in the wash load. Depending on the size of the load, one quarter to half a cup of vinegar is all that is needed.

This little amount of acid will only rise the PH of water a little bit, it's REALLY safe.

No. If you have a front loader, wash with hot cycle. Add Clorox to the bleach chamber. Add white distilled vinegar diluted with water (50/50 or 25/75) in the fabric softner chamber. I would only recommend this if the machine is in the garage, because it creates a toxic chlorine gas. You don't want to breathe this. It should take care of the stains and whiten up your whites (not to mention kill any bacteria.) The gas is really not that dangerous unless you sit in a closed garage staring at your washing machine. Wash at night while sleeping and the gas will disperse (since a garage is not 100% air sealed tight.)

mixing vinegar and laundry detergent simultaneously makes both items obsolete. The mixture turns into salt and water, which cannot clean your clothes.

You don't mix it. The vinegar gets used on final rinse cycle. It works perfectly! Though, I would recommend diluting it with water so it doesn't wreck havoc on the rubber fittings.

Soak first in final rinse water with distilled vinegar like for 30 minutes maybe (?) then wring dry and hang on clothesline under the sun.

Why would you want to? He doesn't recommend overnite soaking for removing odor. He just says one cycle. Just remember, vinegar is acidic. Not sure how acidic after mixing with a load of water but it is acidic.

@@FrankGutowski-ls8jt Do your homework! There are horrors in the laundry aisle - ever heard of synthetic fragrance (containing reproductive toxicants and allergens) or 1,4-Dioxane (a known carcinogen)? All (and more) of which can found in many laundry detergents.
