How to Quarter Saw a Log

In today's video we are going to show you guys how to quarter saw a log. We have a customer that brought us some white oak logs that they wanted quarter sawn. we will go in-depth on one of the ways to go about quarter sawing a log. We are going to be doing what is called the bottom-up method.
But it all starts the same we have to get the log on the mill and get to sawing.

Seems like with the hours of use your sawmill experiences the reduction in operating and maintenance costs suggest to me that you must be getting close to a breakeven for your company to go electric. You did a great job explaining the method you used for quarter sawing a log in this video, Thanks. Ray

I'm over her in Bristol TN I got 21 acres with mostly chestnut oak and maybe half as much white oak anywhere from 3 ft diameter and down...I can't judge it good but my imagination says I got something here....I'm disabled veteran and don't need sympathy but if I could sell these trees maybe I could get me a newer used trailer to live in and a used pickup. If anyone is interested reply to this message. I like the bearded folk😊

You need to talk to your local forestry agents they can help you find a log buyer to value the timber, not a logger . White Oak logs are bringing a premium for whiskey barrel staves. I just Googled Tennessee Dept.of Agricultural they are the ones to contact. Thx for watching and commenting 👍

Yes, I had to recut each quarter to make sure it was flat.
