Good skill to learn for efficient packing or for simple organization. I used this technique while I served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army and is a skill that I still find useful today in the civilian world. I hope you enjoy, Thanks for watching!

My one additional hack to this was/is to add in a pair of socks and boxers after the folding and just prior to rolling. This way you grab one roll when heading to the shower during deployment, or while camping to this day.

I do that too. I'm a motorcyclist who travels a lot, and have been doing that for....35 years, or so? Started out just folding them together. Impressed a woman at the laundry, so she started doing it with her husband's clothes. I don't go to all that extra folding stuff, it just doesn't get that wrinkled to worry about.

Or just fold it like a normal person. You can fit plenty of shirts for camping the normal way. Really excessive and kinda useless, unless you gotta kiss your CO's ass or something. Not something you need to do in real life.

In the Navy we all are taught to fold our shirts. It's all neat folding but I feel the ranger roll is actually more efficient for travel & saving space than having a big stack of folded shirts.
@facelessdrone
@facelessdrone 3 жыл бұрын
It very much is, I do it all the time because i have such little space. Regular folding i can only fit about ten shirts in my nightstand, ranger roll i can fit almost double, not quite but almost, also, in my experience it leaves less wrinkles since there aren't any sharp creases you have to iron out.

You don't need to turn the bottom inside out -- you can just fold it under. When you fold the sides in, it will still create the pocket you need to wrap it up at the end. Also, you don't need to roll it the whole way. You can fold the shirt over about 2/3 of the way and then roll it up....Less rolling, same result.

I understand taking the time to fold something correctly. I used to skydive and got teased all the time about the length of time it took me to pack my chute. Some guys would be running to the plane still tucking material into their container. I wanted to make sure mine was folded the best it could be before I flung myself out of....all together now...a perfectly good airplane.

It’s truly incredible there aren’t more skydiving deaths in this country. I’ve seen what you’re talking about with guys folding their chutes in in the plane. A lot of them are heavy drug users too (not just weed). People need to really do their homework when picking a place to go skydiving. Last place I went I wasn’t even sure the pilot was sober. The rest of the employees were tweakers. I’ll probably never go skydiving again bc nowhere I’ve been has been as safe as it was in the military.

I like the fold at the end of the shirt technique for wrapping it up nice and tight, but other than that I gotta say, as someone who was in the Air Force briefly and was the t-shirt roller for my element in the flight, you guys had it easy on the t-shirt rolling techniques required for inspection from what I see here. inb4 chair force lololololol Yea, I know, it gets that reputation, and deservingly in most cases, but I was in when Gen Mosely was trying to turn the PRT into a mirror of what Marines do while still keeping the stress of the psychological pressures. I'm not sure if it was just my street flight that was like that, but yea. No disrespect though, efficiency is efficiency and that shirt does look nice and presentable at the end result. I just saw the video title and thought I'd see that it'd be even more difficult and painstakingly critical for errors as what I went through. Edit: I hope you guys in the comments that are talking about how long he's taking are just taking the piss and not serious about the time he's taking to do it. He's being courteous and doing it that way so even the slow crowd can understand it. He's trying to show how to do it, not just do an example.

If I'm packing for a trip and taking a suitcase I prefer the method where I lay all my shirts flat on top of each other, then fold them all together in a way where the finished product matches the dimensions of the suitcase. Way less wrinkles and no stretched out bottom seams.

Back in Basic in the 1970's they had to be 6"inches wide or the length of a Dollar Bill. We didn't have a lot of time checking and rechecking, it had to be done as second nature. If it wasn't up to par, the DI had a detail to use them to clean the head. Good video !

@@JohnnyRaze99 I have tried it. I have packed a bag or two over the years and found it only makes it harder to find what your looking for. Especially in the dark. I don't ever mind admitting when I'm wrong. I personally think the type of bag dictates the best way to pack. A t shirt can be folded or rolled to the same size. Anything with a zipper or full collar will create different problems and so on. In my day your kit needed to look fresh and presentable even when you been on patrol for the last 4 days.

Trying this out after 10 years of the skivvy roll, I think this will be a better space saver. Quick cheat on setting the bottom flap: cuff it to where the second, lower tag that's generally on the left by your hip is just starting to peak out. See the tag, it's ready to bag.

This is great. I've used it for years. I've also looked up and developed folding techniques for other types of garments. Each type of garment gets a unique shape. Care to share what the other garment folding technique/ videos are? I started folding all my tees with the ranger fold technique and standing them vertically, so when I look down at my tees I see all the colours without having to dig under the tees only for them to not be stacked as neatly anymore. This technique makes me WANT to fold my clothes after I pull them off the line. I need more techniques so I can want to tackle all the rest of the garments from my wardrobe.

don't need to roll the bottom like that, just fold, 3-4 fingers width is usually good enough, face the front down, fold the bottom so it lips under the front, fold the arms like you did then roll from the top, you still enough cloth to hold it in place and still look neater without needing to double check and is a lot faster.
