HOW TO RE-GRIP YOUR GOLF CLUBS AT HOME DURING LOCKDOWN! (OR ANYTIME) Golf at the moment can be hard to come by, especially while many countries are on lockdown. I had a few jobs I needed to do, one of which re-gripping my golf clubs at home, so I thought id film the process and show you guys how simple it can be if you have the correct tools. This may be a pretty good time to get little jobs like this done so when the golf season starts you are firing on all cylinders... which golf grips should you use? should you use a thick putter grip? should you re-grip your golf clubs? lets find out... and lets do it now!

Great content for all of us self quarantined. I put a wooden tee in the end of the grip. Pour the mineral spirits into the grip. Let it sit while I put the double back tape on. Then pour out of the grip on the tape. Makes both the inside of the grip slick and the double back tape slick. Slides on real easy.

I cried when you destroyed that grip! I have a £15 tool for removing grips and it's soooo easy to do!!! A little tip. Heat up the old grip tape a bit with a blow dryer or carefully with a heat gun and it peels off easy peasy!

Several observations: You need more golf balls, golf shoes and clubs When I redo my grips, I use a small vise attached to my work table. I use a paint tray to catch my mineral spirits. I also use a curved bladed knife to cut my grips off. Get right under the grip and slice all the way down. Easy pesy

Did my first grip changes last year.. found a bunch of Spyder grips on clearance at a local golf course , big box of them by the checkin desk £1 a grip. Picked up a bunch of tape, spirit and a rubber golf club shaft clamp to use in a vice so you can get the club secure but not crush the shaft (amazon or eBay, cannot recall). Then cut up a "PET" bottle - 1 litre tonic bottle - cut it in half lengthways and it makes a great tray to catch the white spirit as you wet the tape. Plug the end of the new grip and swill a bit of white spirit into it - empty into the tray - and off you go. So long as you got the club set up in the vice with the club head pointing straight up it's pretty easy to get the new grip aligned. I was planning to do some tomorrow :) so very timely reminder James.

James Robinson, This is exactly what I am going to be doing in the lockdown, as well as changing some shafts so this video was awesome. I started doing my own grips last year, never looked back. Dam easy no special tools needed I used a kitchen knife to cut em off, removing the tape sucks but solvent helps. Aligning takes care but its easy enough, use LOTS of solvent to attach and heat grips first ( in hot water ). Buy your grips on Ebay you get amazing bargains, those form China are ok not as perfect as the originals but still dam good. You can replace 4 times and still save money.

Not bad. Obviously there are many ways to do this, but you covered it nicely. You might have mentioned shaft diameter vs. grip core diameter. I missed paying attention to that a few times and wasted a few grips because of it. And I use a hook end blade for taking the grips off. Straight edge is a little more dangerous, but if you are careful it works fine. Also, temperature is a big factor. Don't try to do this when the grips are cold. Another lesson learned. Funny you should do this today......... I just ordered 2 new Putter grips for my own Putters. Putter grip type? A whole other issue. I am changing from straight to pistol grip contour. Anyway...well done James. Thanks for keeping us entertained. We get it.

Would just add that I always found the most important part was the butt as if you leave some metal (graphite or in my case hickory lol) showing it would make the slide on sometimes tricky when it grips the shaft sliding over or down the shaft.

I have a rubber grip that grabs the shaft and then sits in my vise. Another trick is to pour the mineral spirits in the new grip and give it a shake, coating the inside. Then pour the contents on the shaft all sitting above a wallpaper tray. I find putter grips are the easiest to change.

You made that look hard work James 🤣. Tips: 1) Cut down the side for a graphite shaft (quicker and no damage) 2) Use hairdryer or heat gun to remove old tape 3) solvent in grip, shake the grip (cover hole with finger at top of grip) then pour over the shaft from hole and then fit grip. You will use less solvent. Hit me up on instagram if you want to learn more on club building, qualified club builder 😉.

Get a gri[ remover - they are worth every penny. Only the Super Stroke grips are tough to remove because they have hard plastic bottom pieces that do not allow the remover to easily get between the grip and the shaft. If you are worried about marring the shaft - tape it with masking tape and you are all set. That Cameron Matador grip is worth more than the grip remover :)

Used the compressor quite a bit. Brilliant you can get stuff off and re use. Couple of problems I did have, Cord grips no good as the air leaks through, also I really like grip master leather grips. They are no good putting on with a compressor because they are a rubber shell with the leather over the top. The rubber wants to expand with the air pressure but the leather over the top says no way...

Tibor Sol - yes,it’s best to use it with rubber composite grips. It takes some elasticity to work. It’s also best to use a piece of PVC to contain any big bubbles. They can ruin a grip fast.Theres several bad videos on KZfaq and a couple good ones.
