Hi Ashley, your videos are so informative! I am going to purchase the McKenzie cardigan pattern, it is just what I have been looking for, but this will be my first attempt at using a pattern with a chart. I have been knitting about 4 years, but have mostly stayed with very basic patterns in the round. I am a left handed knitter, taught myself to knit watching KZfaq videos by holding my phone up to a hand mirror to see the maneuvers in reverse. I knit in the opposite direction from right handed knitters, I move my stitches from the holding needle in my right hand to my working needle in my left hand. I have become fairly adept at reverse engineering stitch sequences to match the order in which I stitch if the sequence is not symmetrical. I have never knit a sweater in pieces, but I want to begin knitting that way. I have come to knitting late in life after decades of garment sewing, so I understand fit and structure and want to knit that way as well. So, if I have thought this through properly, I will follow the pattern for the right front, but what I will end up with is a left front, which is fine, I'll just repeat the process, knit the left front from the pattern and end up with a right front. Does that make sense? The sleeves and back should come out fine, they are symmetrical. My question for you is...should I knit from the chart going left to right, reading the chart from the opposite direction? Will the pattern repeats come out right if I do that? Or should I just follow the chart right to left as you do? I would appreciate any advice you could give? I am away from home (and the yarn I want to use) at the moment, I realize I could just knit a swatch both ways and see what happens which is what I usually do😅, but thought you might have some advice. Thank you!

You can also use baby shampoo for soaking because it is not harsh on yarns. It is also less expensive and more readily available.

question, kind of new to knitting, but when you slip a stitch, do you do that knitwise or purlwise?

This is really helpful. Questions: Why do you have to wet or wash the gauge square? Do you then do the same thing to the finished sweater? Can you tell I’m a new knitter.
