Thanks. I was trying to use a micrometer I inherited to measure the broken tip of my fishing rod. I need to know the size of the remaining rod shaft to try to buy the appropriate replacement guide tip. I appreciated your KISS principle in explaining it and now don't have to take the whole rod to the store.

Ratchet micrometer? No. Never use them. Ok, if you click once, you might be accidentally correct. If you click twice... you have an impact driver. If you click 50 times... forget it.
