I usually read 25 to 30 books a year. I read a lot of classics and history. Some of it isn't easy reading. I don't want to focus too much on the number of books I read, otherwise I'll gravitate toward short and easy reads just to get my number up. Always quality over quantity.

I had a system at the beginning of last year that worked really well until summer (the heat made me really lazy and sluggish). I'd read a chapter in between chores. It went a bit like this: -Clean bathroom -Chapter -Start laundry and vacuum -Chapter -Clean bedroom -Chapter -Continue laundry, dust -Chapter and so on I've been wanting to implement it again, but I keep forgetting about it until the end of the day.

I use this system to reward myself for completing tasks. Usually the reward has something to do with my phone but now I'm trying to use reading as the reward. I do that especially when studying. School reading rewarded by fun reading.

Hi Lucy! These were few very vital tips to remember. Reading, as you told is for pleasure and enjoyment. Reading reinvigorate us from monotony. Making pressure while reading is like making it a burden. This year I will stay obstinate with this quote" Quality is more important than Quantity". Have a sublime reading year ahead to everyone!!!

This year I'm aiming for a very low target (one book a month) because I really want to process and digest books more slowly and thoroughly I might even start annotating more! ☺ Lovely video, Lucy! 💕💕💕

I’m challenging myself to start reading again (even if it’s one book) I’ve dealt with adhd all my life and it’s so hard to absorb what I’m reading so in the end I just feel defeated. But I just started little women and so far I’m loving it :).

Me too! Only books I can read are ones that I hyperfocus on and then can't get anything else done and usually don't sleep until I've finished the book :D

CnBlu I was like that throughout high school, then I just stopped reading completely and wooo did it take its toll lol. I’m having so much trouble but I’m trying to rewire my brain all over again when it comes to reading and just staying focused. I’m the complete opposite I tend to fall asleep on page two haha.

Lucy, I set my Goodreads reading challenge for the year to one book. I was very proud of my reading in 2019. I possibly could have read more than I did. However, I would rather spend more time reading, analyzing, and enjoying the book. If I am off from school, I sometimes find myself reading three books in a week for winter break, spring break, or summer vacation. I read more when I am not in stress or pressure. I personally love reading classics. Some classics are lengthy and generally difficult to read, but that does not prevent me from reading the book. As I am reading more classics and becoming more acquainted with them, I am reading them with a better understanding and at an adequate speed. While some readers like specific and strict goals to read a certain number of books, my reading goals are based merely on enjoyment and pleasure. My reading goals are also based on interpreting literature in a better way. I am an avid reader and do not need a motivation for reading. I also love writing. I love you

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I agree that it's good to fit in reading into all of those little breaks in the day. I carry a book with me everywhere I go and read whenever I can. My best advice is if you want to read more then simply begin reading and keep reading, just read, and before you know it the book has ended! :)

I set a goal on Goodreads and never look at it again. The more I look at whatever number I put down (this year it's 40), I get anxious that I'll never meet the goal. But if I forget about it, I end up meeting my goal (plus at least three more).

If one has read one book for a long long time, and loved the book for yet a longer time, one has read right. Contrary to popular opinion, I believe books are more about the heart than the mind :)

Books For The Heart Agree! And definitely quality over quantity. People bragging about the number of books they’ve read are just silly. It’s impact that matters, reading at least shouldn’t be subjected to damn statistics and success measure.

I just stopped here to thank you 😊 You inspire me a lot. Your videos motivate me each and every day. When I look at my big pile of my TBR books, I get scared and feel I'll never be able to finish these books. And then I come back to your videos and I feel so positive. You're so encouraging, so positive and always make me feel optimistic about reading. You are a great help. There are ao many booktubers who concentrate more on buying books, beautiful editions, costly covers but they talk less about the substance inside the book. You're different. You're honest, authentic and your suggestions, advices and reviews are all useful. Thank you again. Lots of love 😊😊😊😊

You are certainly right about the guilt thing about sitting down but I find that comes from others who think that reading is not important unless you are studying . Reading for pleasure should be confined to bed time or holidays when there aren't the distractions of home and work.

Hello Lucy! Love your channel! Here are my favorite books: One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne One of my favorite books of all time! This is the type of book, where you read a line in a paragraph, you then put the book down press your right hand against your heart, and say "O My God, WOW! Hawthorne's words really take your breath away, unfortunately no one writes that way anymore. The Call Of The Wild by Jack London Great Book! about the life of a dog named Buck! I must say i am a big Cat person! This book made me tear up! (just a little) A Rose for Emily By William Faulkner (short story) Good God! I thought Eger Allen Poe was scary, but i think William is scarier! The Glass Managnie By Tennessee William THis is my favorite play by Williams, and it is a big tear jerker. The Crucible By Aurther Miller Most likely the must important read in all of American literature, just like 1984 this story is still important to this day. Well that's my recommendation! Hope things are Good! :) Mike upstate New York USA

For me I’m trying to work on keeping the amount of books I’m reading at no more than 2 to 4 at a time because the more I read the longer it takes and as a mood reader that causes me to put things down too much due to lack of progress. I hope by staying focused I can actually read more.

I find it easier to set myself a target number, mostly because my pile of unread books is so preposterously large (into the actual thousands) I've had to accept I will quite literally die without having read most of it. So each year I try and do at least 50 cos it's the only way I'll even begin to make a slight dent in the list (it would probably help if I didn't keep acquiring new stuff all the time). Your point about distractions is good. I know one of the things that eats into a lot of my time is KZfaq, and frankly I waste my time watching a lot of crap on here, lately I've been watching a lot of commentary channel stuff that really adds nothing to my life. I really need to make the effort to get out of that rut. Trying to organise my reading... yeah, I think I've finally accepted I just can't do that any more. Same with my film & tv watching. I'm a mood reader/viewer like you, so trying to actually plan out a program of reading/viewing is something I used to be able to do to some extent, but not so much now. I had a vague idea of maybe devoting this year to catching up on the crime genre, go through the classics like Hammett and Chandler and so forth, but whether or not that'll actually happen is already kind of doubtful.

I think setting up the same time every day for reading helps too, ie before bed or before children wake up etc. I also don't watch much television, there's usually only a small handful of shows I get into per year, so that allows more reading time.

Reading is a passive activity? I beg to differ. Reading requires your brain to create images or if it is non-fiction make sense of the text before you. Even podcasts or audiobooks require an interpretation of what you are hearing. It makes no sense to argue that reading is passive since that would mean that you are doing nothing, which is not the case.

i started doing something last year which might be a bit funny but i'v found it really helpful to pick my next read/ make me excited about the next book where i (i alternated between male and female writers as well cause its good to get a balance of voices), so i'll pick 10 books out by either male or female writers and then slowly put books back till i have my next read,
