I am stunned, incredibly impressed of how similar the Russian language is to a Latin based language mixed with some Greek. As a Romance language speaker (Spanish, Italian and French) I was able to recognize many words because of its similarities.

I literally learned how to read Russian one morning randomly with this video, 3 years ago I was getting ready for school and while waiting for the bus I wanted to watch a video and this was on my recommended, and boom. As soon as I finished watching this I knew how to read Russian, now because of this I am currently learning Russian

For me who has Japanese mother tongue, this is the hardest language to learn! My bf has Russian mother tongue and asked me to study Russian as my third foreign language in my uni. Now I really enjoy learning this language but it's really really really hard to learn at the same time lol.. Japanese is one of the easiest language to pronounce as many of you might know (or at least I believe,) and when I ask my bf to teach me how to pronounce Russian "щ" and "ш" and he actually sounds them, it makes me like auggghh what is the difference btwn these letter 😂 And also he always laugh at my pronunciation of "мы" sound, he always says I'm pronouncing smt like "mwi" haha😢 And the hardest part is grammar, Russian grammar is completely different from the languages I've ever learned. I can't imagine the future that I can speak this language fluently but I will do my best to study Russian to speak with my bf's family, and to earn credit RUS201 bc it's mandatory one to graduate my uni 😂😂😂😂 Lol

I started learning russian 2 days ago and it's been really fun,this video also helped me understand more things I got the alphabet and I can read the words but its hard for some of them. I'm from Romania and I can understand some words only by reading them because they are similar to my language. Russian language is nice,learning a new alphabet is nice,understanding and reading it is nice.

Impressed by how Russian is so close to Portuguese (Brazilian portuguese btw). All pronunciations are shared, and even some substition rules are a lot similar to what happens in portuguese. I believe that PT-Portuguese is a lot similar also. Now Angolan-Portuguese and other african variants draw a lot of aspects from their native dialects, so im not certain they're exactly the same but for sure really close too. Incredible!

As someone who's never learned to read Russian and has only learned to speak it, this was insightful. Thank you. I didn't realize all those sound changes and rules before.

so i play lots of games where i frequently come across the Cyrillic letters (Counterstrike for example) and i thought it would be cool to at least know how to read it. but for me as a german/english speaker its pretty hard to see letters that look like letters i know already and assign them to something else entirely. but its been very interesting so far and i probably will try to learn more! have a good day

My advice for learning vocabulary: I am a Bulgarian person who has plans on learning Russian in the near future, I'm not doing it rn because I'm learning Japanese, but when I get to Russian, I'll learn the pronouncation rules but, also I think the IPA could be useful. I can't really give advice that is specifically for Russian since I do not have experience with Russian, but I do have experience with language learning, and I strongly suggest for learning vocab you should use a spaced repetition system called Anki, it's a software for flashcards. When making them, you should write the word on the front side of the card, on the back side you should write the meaning and the pronouncation in the IPA (international phonetic alphabet), I am doing something similar with my Japanese studies and is working pretty effectively pronouncation wise and usage wise.

Thanks for this video! I'm learning Russian to speak more easily to a person I care about. I'm trying to get good at reading so I can understand the memes they send me more quickly. Although I've learned the letters in a vacuum I've really struggled with reading texts of any kind, especially since my vocabulary is still pretty small. I was looking through a book last night that explained how to pronounce the letters in context but I found it confusing and kind of overwhelming to use. It was a lot of paragraphs that didn't really explain clearly when and why some letters sound different, and the example words it had for me to practice with were very long and complicated which distracted from the patterns I needed to notice. Luckily, you've laid out many of those patterns quite clearly. This video is very simpleand makes a lot more sense to me. I'm less nervous about tackling this now. I think I'll even be able try reading the words in that book again soon, after I practice with this a few more times. спасибо :)

WOW! Just wow!! I bow down. I think maybe/probably this is the best video I've ever seen on youtube, totallt regardless of topic. And I've seen quite a few.
