Hey everyone, I hope this helps anyone needing to know the order of Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter Chronicles. I love this series so much and enjoyed making this video!

I am just starting with her, the first book i bought was chain of gold and thr i come to find out i need to read A TON of other books first and now im so lost haha

I've been looking for books to read during quarantine and decided I should try and give this series another shot. I read 50% of City of Bones and quit so I want to give it another go. I liked it, my life just got busy. I'll definitely be going in the order you suggested with the way you read them! Thanks! You are also STUNNING!

I've just read about half of clockwork angel and that's it, so I guess I'm doing chronological order... Edit on 17 July: I've now read all three infernal devices and I've just started city of bones

Thank you! And it does seem like a lot since they came out over a 10 year timespan, but if you just start slow with one series I think you’ll be good and enjoy them!

I get it, but I think it's totally worth it! I started reading them when I was around 14/15, so I kind of grew up with the characters. I'm 23 now, re-reading the whole series and I'm enjoying them in a different way, this world gave me so much. I can't recommend them enough.

thank you so much!! you really helped me with this. i was wondering, i’d like to read all TMI books and after those can i read The Red Scrolls of Magic and after that The Lost Book of the White? or it wouldn’t make sense? Beacuse i’d just want to know more about Alec and Magnus. Or do I have to read TID and TDA in order to understand those 2 books?

I remember reading The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices close-ish to when they came out, but I have no idea if I even finished either of those series. I know I fell off the wagon, but I've been thinking about rereading in publication order then continuing to the books I haven't read yet.

How does the bane chronicles fit into the chronological order method? Because some stories in that book take place before TID, after TID, and during TMI.

My order: City of Bones City of Ashes City of Glass City of Fallen Angels City of Lost Souls City of Heavenly Fire Clockwork Angel Clockwork Prince Clockwork Princess The Bane Chronicles The Shadowhunter Codex next I'll read: Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy Lady Midnight Lord of Shadows Queen of Air and Darkness Ghost from Shadowhunter Market I'm waiting for the rest of The Eldest Curses and The Last Hours and will read them too, otherwise I have TMI and TID in english here (I'm german) and will read them too. :)

Hii! I love your videos soo much and this really helped. But I do have a question about the chronological order. You said that The Lost Book Of The White should be read right after TMI, but I looked it up (a while ago) and I found out that the events in TLBOTW happen after the last story in TFTSA (or so) and now I'm a little confused becouse I finished TMI and TLBOTF comes out in september and I don't know if I should start reading TFTSA or wait and read it after. So what do you think I should do?

Yes, that would be a good way to read them!

Josephine Ø you can technically read Chain of Gold without the others and understand the story but it probably makes more sense to at least have read TID cause you’ll get more out of it

I feel like you shouldn’t necessarily read them chronological order unless you already have read through the whole series. Because in the red scrolls of magic, there is a spoiler for queen of air and darkness that is revealed in that book. Other than that you could read them in that order.

I started my TSC journey in 2013/14 can’t remember 😂. The order I originally read is similar to yours but a couple differences. 1. All of TMI 2. All of TID 3. The Bane Chronicles 4. Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy 5. TDA 6. The Red Scrolls of Magic 7. Ghosts of the Shadow Market I also read the Shadowhunter codex and the illustrated history book along the way -lucie_herondale_ just to let you know 😉

I'm gonna read them in this order but I'm only started it like last year: All TMI The bane chronicals Tales of the shadow hunter academy All TID All TDA All TLH The red scrolls of magic Ghost of the shadowmarket

I'm re-reading the entire series because I started reading them in 2012, had to wait for CoHF to come out (in the mean time I read all of them again) and now as I wait for my Chain of Gold copy, I need some Shadowhunters in my life. I reeeeally recommend the publication order, it's how I read them the first time (and how I'm reading them again right now). If you don't like to separate the series, I actually recommend that you think of TMI as two trilogies (which is how Cassie thought of them), so you can read the first TMI trilogy (CoB, CoA, CoG), then TID and then the second trilogy od TMI (CoFA, CoLS, CoHF). Because in CoHF there's kind of a spoiler for the end of Clockwork Princess. I mean, you might not notice it, but if you do, I think it's a bummer. Anyway, that's my little advice hahah

Love your advice! I’m rereading them in publication order because I had never read them like that and I’m excited to see which way I prefer, but I feel like it’s going to be really cool to read pub order!

@@AndrieReads thanks! Right now I'm on Clockwork Angel and I have to admit, the change in place, time and characters is weird. The first time I read them I had no choice, because the books weren't out yet, but now I feel weird, having CoFA in my nightstand but not reading it right after CoG 😂

Chronological wise...Red Scrolls should be read BEFORE City of fallen angels...NoT After..It set BETWEEN cityofglass and city of fallen angels..Iknowit cuz I reread it that way..indeed it before Fallenangels...ALSO..Lost book of the white(set in 2010) is AFTER tales from the Shadowhunter Academy(set 2008-2010)...

You’re definitely ready to read Ghosts of the Shadow Market (the novella bind up of like 10 stories) or if you haven’t read Chain of Gold yet, you should bc it’s about the kids from the main characters in the infernal devices!

Can anybody help me out? I am horrible at making decisions so I don’t know how to continue. I am currently just finishing city of glass and I have been watching the TV show along with reading (even though the books and Tv show are so different) but I am soooo invested!! I want to continue on with the last seasons but I can’t keep watching without reading the next books after city of glass without being spoiled! Do you suggest I just read the next books of TMI instead of starting TID or should I read in publication order? Is it really that important, can’t I just read TMI all the way through instead? Please help!!

When I first read them, I read all of TMI and then all of TID and nothing was spoiled! I really enjoyed reading it that way, so if you want to keep watching the show I’d say go for it and just continue with TMI! It doesn’t really matter and there’s only a few connections between the two series, but you can find them out in TID and it’ll still be really enjoyable!!

No, that book will just give you extra insight to the world but you don’t have to read it to read the rest of the series!

I started to read this shadowhunder book only because of malec.i liked book story than the movie and the series. But the tv series shows more about malec scences. Even though i liked malec book dialogues than series....

That wasn't at Austin in Texas, right? Sorry if it isn't. It just looked so familiar to the signing that I went to, lol 😅
