"playing the individual player matchup is just as important" great quote! I really feel like fighting games gives you the most transferrable skills across different game genres

This seems to draw parallels with poker. Loose (aggressive) vs tight (defensive) player types. You mentioned about levels of thinking which is a big part of poker. 1st Level = Player just thinks about his cards/character 2nd Level = Player thinks about his opponents cards/behaviour (This video) 3rd Level = Player thinks about what his opponents thinks their cards/behaviour is (Your later video) 4th Level = What do they think that I think they will do (This applies in higher levels of poker, in fighting games it's probably overkill/detrimental) 5th Level = My head hurts Love your vids, keep it up

First action of the match tells a lot about your opponent yes, if your opponent starts match 1 round 1 with any aggressive forward move you can guess they will play very aggressive throughout the match Great content and Information

This is probably the one skill in sf6 that i am proud of lol. My execution may be ass but i am good at picking up on peoples individual patterns, as well as common stategies used by characters (some matchups i need more information). All incredibly good advice. Something i would add, is to show the opponent you are able and willing to use your options. Even if you only do it once, like in my case, throwing out tundra storm, its just one more thing they have to think about. Make them second guess themselves, and you will be able to exploit the weaknesses in their game that much easier.

Good points, & concise. I've enjoyed many fighters & will try to apply this, though I rarely know meaties or get them to work online. Have yet to get past the Capcom ID link error screen after some months, but hope to get online someday. Thanks.

Grapplers get a lot of flak for being essentially braindead on their punishes because of command throws However, in giving up a lot of their ability to consistently control neutral (which is what makes them bottom tier) They gain a lot out of being able to read what the opposite person plans to do If you'd like to learn how to read player behaviours, grapplers as an archetype may provide some insight
@Chris_F

Totally agree about learning player tendencies with a grappler. Helps your neutral too!

I always struggle with getting the download quickly. After reviewing my own ranked replays in Diamond, I've realized that I quite often lose the first game and then end up taking the set 2-1. I can see myself starting to adjust in the second or third round of the first game, but that's often too late to secure that first victory. Its the difference between a 60-70% and a 70%+ win rate. It's even worse in tournament when nerves enter the equation. I've been trying to be more proactive about scouting out the opponent early on. Hopefully having a more intentional flowchart for info gathering will help me cinch out those first games more consistently.

Its hard for sure, especially in a game as explosive as SF6, but the more you actively practice it the better you’ll get! Come on through to my twitch stream and I can take a look at a replay for you and give some pointers if you like!

Many of these things only apply to medium-high skill level players. Low skill players are harder to predict because they don't even have a clue of what they're doing lol Great video tho

Yea you don’t need to focus on reads against newer players just basic spacing pressure and punishment. Like you said, great for mid to high level players! Thanks for watching and for the comment

There's plenty information about the theoretical part of fighting games already. More videos about the 'soft' fighting game skills will be much apprecaited.
