Hey buddy! Personally I REALLY LIKE these technical videos! They generally don't tend to do as well as other videos, but for what it's worth please know that some of us really EAT THIS STUFF UP! :) I battle those very same things when shooting live-action (ie. Can't seem to get enough light for that hungry lens!) but thankfully in stop-motion, I can set the shutter to basically whatever (I often use a 1-second exposure) and get the open depth-of-field, nicely exposed, with very little noise. I have a couple of Aputure's Amaran 200ds and really like them, but that 600D is CRAZY bright!!!!! I'm wondering about the fan noise on it. I imagine it's louder than average.

This was deeply interesting, thanks for this! A video series from a filmmaking perspective sounds like good stuff. And you've activated my Alexa, but she couldn't find a device called "sun," hook me up with that firmware update.

I know that filming yourself filming while you explain everything is probably not your idea of creativity, but you did an amazing job showing how much light was needed for such a small scene at a high frame rate, and explaining things I really know nothing about. 🤣 I hope you'll do more like this in between showing us your builds and your cinematics.

Curious. How do you decide what distance to set your lights at? Wouldn't you get brighter exposure by just moving your lights super close? Also, loved the intro haha.

One thing I like about Aputure is that how over the years they started producing real good quality fixtures. A couple of years ago it would have not been possible to get your hands on lights like these that easily. I've been using Arri lights a lot on set back in the days, but now I always go for Aputure. I said it before and say it again: I'm enjoying your content so much, because you also talk about the film making stuff. Keep it up, it's great content :)

Fascinating. The DoF on that lens is amazing. I’ve been a stills photographer for years (decades!), never had much interest in video - however - a video course would be very interesting.

I love these instructional videos! I've been inspired by your work to get into filming my own miniatures, although I'm not quite satisfied with the video quality of my phone. This and your previous video were really helpful and I was able to pick up a few tips and tricks!

Those doors are amazing!! Love this. I definitely think there's potential for a course on this, because it would apply to things like product photography as well. Your dioramas are pretty genre specific, but a course around this would appeal to a much wider audience than just this crowd ☺️ For example, I'm here because I'm about to build Paris. So even though I've been watching diorama building videos for months, I didn't find your channel till I asked KZfaq how to FILM them. Which tells me that your audience is much bigger than you might think. Dioramas seem to fall into four categories: old lady, Korean DIY miniature kit, horror / abandoned / old house, and D&D / WoW / Studio Ghibli. Weirdly, there aren't a lot of crossover elements... but this definitely counts.

Fantastic job. Shooting miniatures is fine art on to itself. Scale, or I should say figuring out how small you can make something and still have it look good on camera, as well as have some ease of filming to create a realistic effect is the trick. The smaller the miniature the bigger the challenge. Cheers Man!

Hey man, great video! I also have a connection to the film world and can definitely vouch for Aputure products. They also make some great little hand held lights for tight spots. I also fully understand how filming miniatures can quickly become a whole production in its self. Takes a while to set everything up and put it all away when your done but the extra effort is always worth it. Didn't know about the haze in a can - will look into it - I got a disco hazer but often end up using a tactical vape cloud for my smoke effects. Much love brother!!

I'm not in the miniature build scene (I don't have the time to really build miniatures, as much as I'd like to be able to), but I do a lot of graphic design work that requires the use of a camera. Various art fields wind up crossing paths more often than you'd ever realize, and I'm sure I could use your techniques on light and filming in my own work.

Ever do a rotting location wwith a spiral or 'grand' staircase? Even a wrought iron style staircase would be wild with rust, overgrowth and the killer lighting you use...could be a tricky but fun way to add some verticality to a diorama, allowing for a second floor. Could even have rotted holes through the ceiling between the 2 floors :)

OK, so I'm from the old school film (35mm photography) days. 100iso was your standard lab replacement film, 6400 was about as high as available and you'd be looking at a mosaic with film grain being VERY noticeable. Aperture topped out at around f11 or f16 if memory serves me correctly. (Can't check on my old gear as it was stolen a few years ago.)

Which in-App purchase in filmic would you recommend to film miniatures, that would give me control over DOF, Shutter speed, exposure, etc.?

I have a similar miniature and need to film it but I can't move because it's the background. (Characters are green screened). I have a Canon camera and video camera. What lens should I get? 16-35mm? I want everything to be in focus as much as possible.

I'm wondering... wouldn't it be best to choose a camera that offers the highest possible QUALITY but with the SMALLEST SENSOR? This way, you could also reduce DOF. What would be the best camera with the smallest sensor that can deliver a highly professional output? I would definitely not go full frame for miniature shoots. Ideally, even below Micro Four Thirds.
