Thank you for the good learning video. I would like to make you a suggestion. Among numerous lantern manufacturers, Coleman is the only one that maintains a lantern mass production system. Thanks to this, it is still possible to purchase new lanterns at a low price. I have owned NorthStar Gasoline in the past, We are currently using Premium Dual Fuel (285A), Powerhouse Dual Fuel (295A), Single Mantle (286A), and Kerosene (639C) lanterns. I live in Korea. In Korea, Japan, and China, 285A, 286A, 295A, 639C, and NortStar can still be purchased as new models at low prices. Please tell people who are still buying new lanterns how to maintain these lanterns. You could teach beginners how to maintain a lantern in an easy-to-understand way. That video will become a steady-selling video for a long time and will be viewed by many people. Some of those people will naturally grow up to be old Coleman lantern enthusiasts. And you will earn money from KZfaq.

Very well done video Frank! I just finished up rebuilding a 200 canadian lantern. The threads on the burner tube and in the u tube were stripped. I used a little self drilling screw to hold the tube and u tube together until i can source replacements parts. Still the lantern light and run perfectly. As thread sealant for the valve body to fount, permatex indian head shellack work perfect and can be removed later if needed.

Old town- Thank you for your time, effort and knowledge here. I have a 200 a that I got from man in my fishing club. Stamped “200 A 53 “ on the bottom. I’m sure he used it many years fishing/ice fishing. I plan on doing the same, but with night fishing added. It’s been working pretty good, but started leaking at the valve stem. Through the power of you tube, and your knowledge, I know what to order and how to fix it, saving me some money. Thanks! Instant Subscriber. Period! Have a blessed and prosperous 2022, from Chicago

I collect clocks, Occupied Japan figurines and lamps, glassware, kerosene and Aladin lamps, my house is full of treasures (yes I'm single). My buddy Jeff has a slew of Coleman lanterns and a few table lamps, now I have around 8 lanterns and two table lamps, so far. I can't blame it on you for my new addiction, but I ran across you here and you know your stuff! I mentioned a "genious Coleman guy" to my buddy and he said 'Oh, yes that's Frank...." I've just watched 1 1/2 hours on the 200a rebuild. You sir are a shining star. I no longer have to bug Jeff (also a Coleman guru) with all of my questions, I am learning from you too. Thank you, great channel.

Ya know I was successful some of the time with those clips, using needle nose pliers and hitting the tabs just right. But it got to the point that if I was not going to replace them, I would angle the grate out of there by slightly torquing one of the arms, then bending it back in place when reinstalling it. What a pain!

i just cleaned the fuel pickup tube of my 1979 200a. The valve component is really tight and i have to use a hammer knock the end of valve. finally i rotated it down from the fount. After i finished cleaning the fuel pickup i found that it is really a nightmare to rotate it back. i need a vise! I want say thanks to you. The reassemebly video gave me a lot of help and idea. But i really dont want to disassemble it again.

Frank....thank you so much for sharing your valuable knowledge with us. Sincerely appreciated and prevented me from making a hundred mistakes. BTW....what does PAL nut.mean? Is it an abbreviation? A cheap stamped nut seems like such a cheesy way of fastening the entire burner assembly.....which includes the vent and the bail! So all the weight of the fount is on that little bit. Wouldn't a standard nut be much better? One last question....do you ever nickel-plate the burner frame? They rust so easily with all that heat

I just finished restoring a 200A with the significant help of your videos but one question so far: How loose is the globe supposed to be? I have the original Pyrex globe (cracked unfortunately) and a Chinese one that are the same size and I can easily lift them up so that the bottom edge is even with the top of the metal frame cup on the bottom and it allows it to rattle around. I know these can't be really tight due to thermal expansion but am I missing a spring holder to stop the rattle or are they just this loose? I looked all over and couldn't find a good answer for this.

Thank you for your video! I have a 200A half apart and was was wondering how that ecentric on the generator cleaner worked! Where do you recommend getting parts? Im missing a 200b4891 or 200c4891 globe base rest?
@OldTownColeman
@OldTownColeman 3 жыл бұрын
Abby, hello. When you turn the tip cleaner stem, the opposite end has a bend in it. This bend fits in a slot on the eccentric block. With that bend going up and down as you turn the stem, the up and down motion causes the eccentric block to also go up and down. Remember that you do not need to remove the tip cleaner usually, and probably shouldn't if it does not leak or bind. Parts can be found at oldcolemanparts.com. Thanks and talk soon! Frank

You might consider using an ultrasonic cleaner... The inside of valve parts and other miscellaneous tubes will become absolutely clean... Mix water with a citric acid like Lime-Away... I have been restoring generators this way for years... And it works fast.

A toy that is on my list for sure. Most out there do not have access to an ultrasonic cleaner so I first try to show the "analog" way of doing things. I don't show me using my bead blast cabinet for the very same reason. I hope to showcase the big toys in future videos.

On a well functioning small, single mantle Coleman white gas lantern, how long should the mantle burn brightly before the fount needs to be pumped up again. This is considering that the there is no leaks of air / gas anywhere else than it should be going. Is that burn time related to the size of the fount or just the volume of the fuel in the tank with a longer run time as the fuel level drops and there is more air space to be pumped up?

Tom, how loose is really loose? They are not intended to be tight in there--not at all. Are you sure you have the correct ventilator on the lantern? That could result in an over-sloppy fit of the globe.

James I'd start with the check valve as your pump is rising quickly and that isn't good, and could mean you are not getting enough pressure into the fount. Once you get that cleaned up (see latest video) then you can see if it is something else. email is info@oldtowncoleman.com if you need help.

Frank, love the intro -- what is that beautiful lamp you light, and the music riff -- and gorgeous model move with the look back over the shoulder. So, do you work on items for a fee ? While I realize Coleman offers their $55.00 'return to service' offer, but they are explicit in their caveat that they will NOT put in the TLC you show in in your videos.

It is an old Sunshine Safety lamp that is just beautiful. I no longer can do repairs for others due to liability issues. I'm not sure if Cliff and Roger are still in Wichita rebuilding stoves and lanterns--the made sure when it left their shop, it was right. Hopefully this is the same practice as today.

I have a question regarding the frame washers. On my Canadian made 200; only the centre frame mount has a grove for a washer. The generator side does not have a grove that will hold a washer. William, what is wrong with the 242C, or are you just wanting a rebuild parts list? The 242C is a gasoline lantern. Thank you!

I would like to know what is your thoughts on using a #20 mantle on a 242 lantern instead of a #21A mantle . The Coleman package of #21A mantles doesn't even list a 242 on the bag. I know the #20 s are for the smaller Peak backpacking lanterns. Could I use either or what mantle was originally called for on a 242? Loved the videos. Keep them burning 🔥 Sunshine 🌞 of the night.

Anthony, hello sir. I've never thought about using a #20 on a 242 lantern--not sure why you would. Mantles are intended for the candlepower output of the lantern and the #20 is for compact lanterns like the 222 series as you mention. I'd stick with the #21 mantle...
