So my 2013 155 that I have owned since new has never had a pump rebuild. It currently has 1045 hrs on it. its only run in fresh water and I never sucked up anything bigger than a small sticks that I could clear out on its own. I check under the impeller cover when winterizing and I have never seen any water, nor is the grease milky, seals still look okay. Should I be rebuilding it as PM? I have read online that some people say every 200-300 hrs but that means I would have rebuilt it like 5 times by now. Am I just playing with fire by riding with this many hours without rebuilding?
@3ftDeepChannel
@3ftDeepChannel 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. If it seems to be working perfectly, and there is no water intrusion at all, then it may be that it can work perfectly well for another 500 hours. I don’t recall anyone ever going that long without an issue. Next time you’re in the area remove it and check the bearings for any play, as they are bound to wear out soon. Good luck, and thanks for your comment!

My hull filled with water on idle and when I took it into the dealer I'm being told the pump bearing went and caused water to blow back through the carbon seal. Does this make sense? Apparently carbon seal is fine but issue was with the pump. I'm not sure I understand how a pump bearing coukd cause your hull to fill up.
@3ftDeepChannel
@3ftDeepChannel 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it does. I had the same failure while on a long trip to an island. The pump is helping to hold the drive shaft in place. When it fails catastrophically there may not be enough pressure against the carbon ring and the seal will no longer be there. On my old machine when I was revving the engine water was coming in a forceful spray. That's why it's critical that we maintain our pumps! Sorry for the delayed response, but I just found your comment today.

Hello !! I want to ask a question. 2013 Sea-Doo GTX 155 power is lost and does not start from the start button, there is no sound signal LCD CLUSTER does not show anything what could be the reason?
@3ftDeepChannel
@3ftDeepChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Likely power supply. Check the battery voltage. You should have well over 12 volts (probably 12.5v). If that’s ok, then it’s likely an issue with a wire, most likely a ground wire. Make sure the connections to the battery are secure, too. Good luck.

Hello Cody, You can find most of the tools we use at the following URL: 3ftdeepsports.com/store-tools-specialty/ . As Sea-Doo change parts over time, we can't confirm what tools will work for your machine. We suggest getting hold of a service manual for your machine and check what tools are needed. You can then find your specific one on our website at the link I just gave you. Good luck and safe riding.

The 2016 Gtx manual says to add only a thin layer of grease to the o-rings of the jet pump cover and no grease into the cover anymore. In spite of all do you recommend to add more grease ?
@3ftDeepChannel
@3ftDeepChannel 3 жыл бұрын
I think the reason it says that is that the bearing grease is so thick it doesn’t flow out of the cone, anyway. That’s our observation. So, it’s a waste of grease. It’s important that you pack the grease where the bearings and other components are, though. Good luck.

Great vids as usual! Question, what is your opinion on stainless steel wear rings?
@3ftDeepChannel
@3ftDeepChannel 5 жыл бұрын
That's a very good question and you'll get a different answer from different people you ask. My feeling is that it was made by the engineers who design the machines to be a "sacrificial" part for a good reason. When the ring interacts with the impeller something's got to give, especially if something hard is stuck in there. So my feeling is if your wear ring is stainless steel, your impeller would wear down much quicker than if it was plastic ...and that's an expensive item. So, I stick with nylon wear rings and replace them periodically. Thanks for your comment.

Great video. Perfect! I was wondering if you can give me advise. My 2008 ski run well yesterday for 3 hours. Today, after 20 minutes, of low speed riding a grinding noice started. I could here it from 40 yards away. Can a shot pump bearing cause that? Any other suggestion what to check?
@3ftDeepChannel
@3ftDeepChannel 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, a shot pump can cause that. I would not even start your machine until the problem is resolved. First check the pump intake (through the intake grate) and see if anything is stuck in there. That is the most likely issue. If the intake and pump is clear, pull the pump and check it out thoroughly. If the pump is in good shape and you have a supercharger, it could be a bearing/washer failure. Do you have a supercharger?

Hello an awesome videos as everybody else has said. I removed the main bearing out of my pump unit just as you did and when I pressed the shaft out the inner races came out of the main bearing. So I end up with three pieces, the outer race with the ball bearings inside and then the two inner races. Is this how it's supposed to be or is the bearing supposed to stay in one piece. Thank you very much for any info you can offer on this. I don't want to buy a new bearing as this one looks like it's in perfect condition but I'm not sure if they're supposed to come apart into three pieces. Thanks again
@3ftDeepChannel
@3ftDeepChannel 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. When you press in/out a bearing, you must always press on the outer ring as there is very little material holding the bearing together. When we pressed the shaft out, we placed the bearing over a hole so the inner and outer rings were supported by the plate as the shaft was pressed through. If your bearing came apart, it needs to be replaced. Good luck with your project!

Another Great Video. I have a Pro tip that won't help many, I'm a retired Professional wrench and I now live on the Gulf Coast in a house on Stilts with a One Car Garge under 1000 Feet from the Shoreline, I have no space for a Shop Press not to mention that the Corrosion here is horrendous. I just happen to have a S.-O. CJ Puller Set that I purchased Piece by Piece over Decades from the Tool Truck with weekly payments. The CJ-2002 is a good Starter Set (Costs way more than a Shop Press BTW) and may be available Used? A Pair of Longer Jaws and a Longer Screw would need to be added to be able to Rebuild a Jet Pump however. My point is that it is possible to Rebuild a Jet Pump without a Shop Press. Obviously it would depend how good the wear ring is but would it be as much as a garden hose would push out? Just doing some calculations for my Subaru impreza project..will most likely be running it through a heat exchanger though. Anyway take care.

I use the Sea-Doo grease, but Chris uses standard marine grease. We haven't seen any difference (yet). The service manual says to replace the cone screws, so I always do. Chris never does, but then again his nose cone fell off once. He doesn't blame the screws, but I do. Good luck and thanks for the comment!

@3ftDeepChannel

It depends on what you mean by "too hard". The main concern of over-tightening an impeller is that it becomes very difficult to take off later on. Always tighten to the torque stated in your service manual. Good luck.

What would be the symptoms to let you know you need to have your jetpump rebuild ? I cannot get pass 10 mph even at full throttle rpm rev high. The only time i can get it to go is when there is only 1 to 2 people (normal size) on max then it goes to 40-45 mph
@3ftDeepChannel
@3ftDeepChannel 5 жыл бұрын
That would be a symptom. Check the clearance between the edge of the impeller and the inside of the wear ring. It should only be about a millimeter. If it’s more than one and a half millimeters, you should probably replace the wear ring. You can check the condition of the pump without taking it off by taking the impeller cover off and looking for water inside. It doesn’t guarantee there are no problems, but if there is water you need to pull the pump and check it out thoroughly. Of course, before you do anything you should check to ensure that the intake grate is clear of any debris. Good luck.

Hello Caleb, As long as you're using the OEM part (and it looks like you've got the right one), it should fit. I'm sure you're aware that the bearing fit should be tight enough that it requires a press to get it in. If it doesn't fit at all, I suggest they sent you the wrong part (it could be mislabeled), or you don't have the pump (or year of machine) you think you have. I would bring the pump into your dealer and see if they can help you figure it out. Good luck!

I have a 2017 seadoo gtr-x 230 I just put new bearing grease from the shop where the flange nut is and also in the cone. Question is, is it ok to apply that same grease where the drive shaft enters the impeller as well as in the boot or is triple guard grease the way to go? The amount of grease from factory as I took it apart seemed to be insufficient to the amounts posted in your video which I thought was odd. Around the splines of the drive shaft and inside the boot had rust in the thin layer of grease that wiped off thankfully but trying to prevent that or any rust in the future.

Triple Guard grease is definitely the way to go. I don’t know how it’s made, but that stuff sticks like crazy …even in salt water. That’s what the Service Manual says to use and we’ve found it to be excellent over the years. The Manual also seems to be getting away from putting bearing grease in the nose cone, but we still add some anyways. Good luck.

The Triple Guard Grease is just supposed to go (generously) directly on the splines of your driveshaft. The manual suggests Loctite 438 to go inside the driveshaft boot/plastic guard.
