Thanks for the kind words! GarageBand doesn't have a Noise Reduction tool like some other DAWs have. The best way to reduce room sounds is to try to record in a quiet space, and to be sure you are using the right type of microphone. So can we just put in the preexisting iphone microphone recorded audio edited on GarageBand? What microphone are you currently using?
@liftpodcasting

I would recommend an external microphone for the highest quality audio. In this video, I'm using a Samson Q2U microphone. I like it because of it's audio quality for the price and ease of use. You can certainly import audio from elsewhere and edit it in GarageBand. I hope that helps!

Hey! I'm a little late to this video but it's a great job! Thank you. My question is about my friend and I who want to podcast together remotely. How would you recommend we get the highest quality audio recording? The plan was to use Discord as our meeting space (Discord stage channel), then record our individual mic inputs of the conversation via a recording app, then upload the audio files into two tracks on Garage band. What are your thoughts? Could Garage band also function as that recording app for our call over Discord? Thank you!

@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting 10 ай бұрын
I've not used the m-track 2x2 before, but it looks like it just has one XLR mic input. If that's the case, you wouldn't be able to record the mics on two separate tracks, but you could get an XLR splitter to plug two mics into one input. Here's an example: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/YXF119--hosa-yxf-119-y-cable-dual-xlr3f-to-xlr3m-6-inch

@liftpodcasting

GarageBand doesn't have a great noise reduction option unfortunately. One thing that could help is to make sure you're using the cardioid polar pattern on your Yeti (the one that looks like a heart). The other polar patterns will pick up more room noise.

@@Helloacx Unfortunately, I'm not sure if there is a simple way to do that in GarageBand. You can add in music after a recording by dragging a music file into a new track. If you want to record music "live to tape," it might be easier to get an audio recorder with an input for you mic and an input for your computer.

Thanks! I’m starting a podcast and have a cheap mixer. When I try to record separate audio it only shows up as my usb mic which is basically just all the mics running through the mixer. Is there a way to change that or is it just because it’s running through a mixer?
@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting Жыл бұрын
In my experience, it depends on the mixer. Some send out one mixed output, so GarageBand only sees the one output. Some send out multiple channels, so you'll see something like "Mixer," ""Mixer (1)," "Mixer (2)," etc. I have a mixer where you have to turn on "multitrack recording" in order for it to output multiple channels. I would look up your mixer and see if it has multitrack recording capabilities. I hope that helps!

Is it possible to connect a phone to your computer to take calls in the podcast? I normally do my podcasts through calls but had some tech issues so looking for another way to record. My options are that or using zoom or riverside. I hooked everything up but it is still only recognizing one input.
@liftpodcasting

If GarageBand is not recognizing a second audio input, you might be able to create an "aggregate device" using your Mac's Audio MIDI setup. Here is a walkthrough I found on that: support.apple.com/en-us/HT202000 For recording phone interviews, I prefer Zoom. Just make sure to have it set to record separate audio files for each participant. That is a checkbox under Zoom .us > Preferences > Recording. I hope that helps!

Difference between recording podcast in stereo vs mono? Benefits? Thank you
@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting Жыл бұрын
If you record your podcast in mono, the same audio will come out of both the left and right speakers. If it's recorded in stereo, the sound that come out of the left and right speakers will be different. I would recommend recording in mono unless you have a specific reason to record in stereo. Mono files are half the size of stereo files, and it will sound balanced in the ears of the listener. It will also sound the same if the listener is only using one earbud, for example. Stereo can be used if you are playing around with sound design. For example, you can make it sound like your speaker is walking across the room by panning their audio from right to left. I hope this helps!

@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting 5 ай бұрын
The way that I've done that is to set up everything how I want it, and then save the project and call it "Template." Then when I start a new episode, I open the Template project and Save As a new project. I hope that helps!

What do you recommend to give my voice a little “professional” sound? Thank you!
@liftpodcasting

My best recommendation is to get a microphone well suited for podcasting. Look for a dynamic mic with a cardioid polar pattern.

Hi I have a 2 QU2 mics that are plugged in via XLR to a COMICA AD3 that then is plugged in to my mac with a headphone jack. Why am I not seeing both mics?
@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting Жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with the COMICA AD3, but from what I was able to find online, it's likely the audio coming into your computer is the mix of both mics from the one output. One mic is on the left channel and the other is on the right channel. I believe you'll want to be sure the switch on the side is on S for Stereo (not M for Mono). If you want to edit individual tracks, you can try duplicating the track when you're done and pan one track to the left and one to the right. Here's directions on how to pan tracks: support.apple.com/guide/garageband/set-track-pan-positions-gbndf3f2f28c/mac#:~:text=In%20a%20track%20header%20in,it%20to%20the%20center%20position. I haven't used the COMICA AD3 before so I can't promise that will work, but I hope I'm sending you in the right direction!

how you add music to the podcast... thanks in advance
@liftpodcasting

You would create a new track and import the music file you'd like to use. I don't have a video on adding music in GarageBand, but this one in Audacity uses the same principles. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fJ55e5mUt9-vkaM.html

My guess is that you need to switch the output on GarageBand. In the menu go to GarageBand>Settings. Then click on the Audio/MIDI tab at the top. Under Devices, change your Output Device to your computer's speakers. Hopefully that helps!

In this video, I'm using a USB mic, but either option works. Usually an external mixing board has several outputs, so you just want to be sure to select the one that correlates to the mic you want to use.

@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting 10 ай бұрын
I've never used the Commander M1, so I can't say for sure, but it's possible that it doesn't output separate tracks for each microphone, but instead outputs the stereo mix. Sometimes boards will output one mic on the right channel and the other on the left channel, if that's the case you can record them on one stereo track and then separate them into mono files. Audacity has a simple way to do that and I found a video that explains how to do that here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7N5qM-p3p3QpYE.html Sorry I don't know the exact issue, but I hope that helps! Good luck!

Have you ever had an issue with a weird echo in the tracks when you record two mics or is the master echo option you turned off supposed to correct that?
@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting Жыл бұрын
Typically the culprit is the master echo or master reverb. Another possibility is that both mics are picking up one voice, which creates a subtle echo effect. The best polar pattern for a podcast mic is cardioid, so it's not picking up sound from behind the mic. Omnidirectional mics will sound echo-y. If you're using cardioid mics, make sure they aren't too close together.

Thanks for the video. Can I just ask a few questions (I'm a novice!!). First, if I want to record a podcast with me and one other person using my MacBook Air (using GarageBand) how do I link two microphones and two sets of headphones to the one laptop to do that? Second question, if I want to intersperse the conversation with playing music from the laptop, will the music just be picked up if I play it through the laptop (e.g. through Spotify) or do I need to import the music some other way? Thanks in advance!
@liftpodcasting
@liftpodcasting Ай бұрын
Ask away! You'll likely need an adapter that plugs into your Air and has two USB inputs. You can get a headphone splitter to attach two headphones. Here's a good video on how to get GarageBand to read both microphones: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pK1mi61-zL6Ykp8.html For music, you'll need to import it as an audio file for the highest quality. You can create a new track and add the music there. I hope that helps!

@@liftpodcasting Thanks for this so much. I've now found a podcast studio near where I live where you can rent the space at a reasonable price. Once I create the audio recording I'll have a raw audio track of an interview I will do. Is it possible in garageband to edit different music into this audio track. Basically I want to play a bit of the audio, then pause and have a song, then resume the audio of the interview, then song, then interview etc without the two ever overlapping... Is there a way to do this on garageband?

I found this on adding podcast to a Patreon account: support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004204206-Setting-up-a-podcast-on-Patreon You would first need to export your audio from GarageBand by going to Share > Export Song to Disk. Be sure to have MP3 selected.
